Due to unbalanced accounts, Barcelona had to let Gabonese international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang join Chelsea. However, reports have recently surfaced claiming Auba is keen on returning to Barca.
After terminating his contract with Arsenal he arrived at FC Barcelona on a free transfer. Being the joint top scorer in his short time at the club, he has won over the fans.
After a €12 million offer, they had to let Auba go as they could not register new players. However, life has not exactly been a bed of roses for the striker in West London. With turbulence at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea faltering every now and then, the situation is not conducive. Aubameyang was brought on by new manager, Graham Potter against Manchester City as a substitute only to be sent back to the bench again.
Amidst Joao Felix‘s arrival at Stamford Bridge, it looks like Aubameyang is going to fall further down the pecking order.
Reports say that he has contacted Xavi to come back to the club at any cost and is “missing the club”. This comes amidst rumors that Depay is being by Atletico Madrid.
Xavi is not willing to lose either player without replacements. Barca, who are tied up and operating at the borderline of FFP regulations, would need Auba to take a significant salary cut.
Another twist in the tale is Atletico expressing their interest in Auba. The transfer would be impossible for them this month as it’d go against FIFA’s rule of playing for two clubs a year at most.
A return to Barcelona would be more feasible for him. However, the deal is very complicated. Firstly, Depay has to leave for Atletico. Secondly, Chelsea should sanction a loan exit for the Gabonese. Finally, Auba must lower his salary significantly.
