Gunners have been heavily linked with Viktor Gyokeres. They are in desperate need of striker and hence a big move is expected soon. But Gyokeres is also looked upon by other top clubs and he will cost big money too. But Arsenal will still try to sign Gyokeres however incase if the deal fails they will try to sign Mateo Retegui who has emerged as the latest player to be linked with a move to the Emirates.
It is now clear that Gunners need to improve their attack very soon. They are now 9 points behind Liverpool who are on top of Premier League table. Some key signings are desperately needed in January itself if Arteta wants to keep the title hopes alive.
Gunners have failed to perform well in final third. Martin Odegaard was absent for many matches and no one was able to fill his shoes. Hence, a move for winger or an attacking midfielder is expected.
But striker still remains the top priority of North London club. Arsenal wanted a striker in summer itself but the deal never materialised. Kai Havertz is doing well but still lacks consistency as it is not his preferred position. On the other hand, Jesus is still struggling and is very likely to get sold next year.
Arsenal are monitoring Viktor Gyokeres who is their top target. But they also have to keep backup plans if they fail to land him. This has already happened when Gunners tried to sign Sesko this summer. Gunners are now aware and hence have now started to keep tabs on Italian striker.
Arsenal keeping tabs on Mateo Retegui
According to CaughtOffside, Gunners have now planning to sign Retegui who is being viewed as ‘Plan B’. But Atlanta are unwilling to sell the Italian as he is in fine form. Despite Atlanta’s unwillingness, they still have to part ways if Gunners pay in region around €50 million.
Retegui looks like a player who can solve Arsenal’s current problems. He is still only 25 years old and is in great form this season. He has played 12 Serie A matches this season in which he has scored 11 times and assisted 3 times.
Retegui is clinical in front of the goal and his 3 assists confirm that he has a lot to offer than just goals. At €50 million he seems like a great addition to Arsenal squad.
