Mauricio Pochettino extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain on July 23, 2021. The former Tottenham Hotspur manager signed an 18 month deal with PSG in January. While Pochettino also had an option to extend his contract by one year.

PSG have triggered that clause in order to make Pochettino stay until June 30, 2023. After only spending six months at Paris Pochettino was linked with Real Madrid and his former club Tottenham Hotspur. This was because of PSG’s poor performance in the league as the Parisians lost the Ligue 1 title to LOSC Lille after 10 years. While the club also failed to get past Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final.

Following this poor performance, Pochettino was rumoured to leave PSG. However, the club was confident in Pochettino and both agreed to a one-year contract extension. While speaking in a press conference ahead of PSG’s Ligue 1 opener Pochettino spoke about what it meant to sign a 1-year extension.

Pochettino said, “We just extended our contract a few days ago”. “This shows that the club believes in us for the next two years. The club and the sporting director think it’s the right thing. We will give everything to help the club achieve our goals by the end of the season.”

PSG had a great transfer window as they signed three great free agents which include Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Gianluigi Donnarumma. While they bought Achraf Hakimi for 70 million from Inter Milan and are currently in pursuit of Lionel Messi. Following these signings, the PSG fans are fully hoping that Pochettino will land their first-ever Champions League title. So, let’s wait and see what magic PSG and Pochettino have in their box for the 2021/22 season.
