Pochettino Wants Sergio Ramos at PSG as a Great Leader?

Mauricio Pochettino has recently labelled Sergio Ramos as a prime target for summer and wants him to join at Paris Saint-Germain, stating that the French side would be a “great club” for the Real Madrid and Spain captain.

Speaking to Marca, the former Tottenham manager has now confirmed his intention for the highly prolific centre-back, terming him as a ‘future leader’ for the Ligue 1 champions .

Ramos is believed to be looking for an exit from the Los Blancos over a new contract, meaning that he is set to leave the Bernabéu on a free transfer in the summer after 16 seasons. Real have a policy of only offering one-year contracts to players over the age of 30.

Pochettino has set his eyes for ramos to be the leader of his squad in future , according to MARCA.

What Pochettino had to say about Ramos:

Although Pochettino did not become the Real Madrid manager, he could reportedly be united with Madrid’s captain. Sergio Ramos with PSG one of many clubs believed to be interested in the 34-year-old centre-back who looks likely to leave Real Madrid as a free agent this summer.

Talking to MARCA, he said “PSG’s strategy has been the same for years, ever since we signed Ronaldinho, to look at market opportunities and bring in those who can improve what we have. We will see in the coming months. Here, Ramos would find a great club with the obsession to always win. PSG are one of the biggest [clubs] in the world”, Pochettino added.

“Nothing else matters here except winning. Winning the Champions League has been a dream for 50 years; we have never won it. Even when I was a player it was an obsession” he added. Projecting the ambitious path for PSG’s aim of champions league dream.

Pochettino spent three full seasons at the French capital with PSG from 2001-03, played over 70 matches scoring 6 goals from the center back position. PSG spent two full seasons in Division 1 and finally promoted to Ligue 1 in 2003.

Meanwhile, Madrid’s stubbornness to overlook senior players may lead to other big clubs coming for Ramos, similarly to Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus. Also, there are reports of Raphael Varane’s exit.

Recently it was found that Ramos gave a hint over his desire to leave by liking a post on Twitter.

Apart from PSG, Manchester United are also said to be interested in Real Madrid’s captain. Ramos has made close to 700 appearances for Madrid in all competitions, including 18 starts this season.

Mauricio Pochettino reiterated that PSG’s ultimate objective is to win the UEFA Champions League and not just perform well in it. The French giants are currently one of the biggest clubs to have never won the Champions League despite signing some big names like Neymar, Mbappe, Angel di Maria etc.
