Arsenal are busy with their pre-season games as they the new Premier League season is rapidly approaching. Mikel Arteta is busy in trying out new strategies to guide Gunners to the ultimate prize. The North London club has already played against Bournemouth and Manchester United. Gunners have won both the matches, however their win against Bournemouth was on penalties. On the other hand, Arsenal completed a good comeback against United. However, the club fell short on penalties. Alongside the pre-season games, Arsenal need to focus on new signings as only one month of transfer window is remaining. Here are some of the signings Arsenal may go after this season.
Mikel Arteta revealed that Gunners need to strengthen their squad. He has the backing of Gunners board. Arteta is working alongside Sporting Director Edu to bring some top talents to the club. The dup revealed some of the positions, Gunners need fast filling. Those positions are left back, striker, right-winger, midfielder and goalkeeper. Some of those positions have already been filled. However, this transfer market has been very quiet so far for Arsenal fans.
Signings completed by Arsenal
Arsenal have completed the signing of David Raya on permanent basis. The Spanish keeper signed on loan last season for Gunners. He quickly impressed Mikel Arteta and was able to earn the spot of regular starter. Raya has now signed a new contract with Arsenal making him the permanent keeper at North London. Raya is currently on vacation as he was in Spain’s squad that won Euro 2024. This is the only signing that has been made official by Arsenal.
Second signings which is reported to have completed is of Riccardo Calafiori. Calafiori impressed Arteta with his great performances for Italy in Euros. Before the Euros, Calafiori helped Bologna to achieve the Champions League qualification for the first time in their history. Calafiori is set to complete his medical at North London. According to The Mirror, the Italian defender will join Arsenal’s squad in United States once his medical is completed.
Arsenal’s midfield situation
Gunners are ready to part ways with some of their midfielders. According to reports, Emile Smith Rowe and Thomas Partey maybe on their way away from the Emirates. The both superstars are currently with Arsenal squad in United States. However their time in Gunners shirt maybe up as Arteta wants to bring in a new midfielder. Declan Rice signed for Arsenal last summer for a record breaking £105 million. He started playing as a defensive midfielder. However, he was later used as number eight by Arteta. In addition, Gareth Southgate continued the trend and made Rice his number eight throughout the Euros.
Arteta wants to sign a new holding midfielder to partner Rice. Firstly, Gunners were linked with Martin Zubimendi and Douglas Luiz. However, Zubimendi has no intention to leave Spain and Luiz has signed for Juventus. After failing in two signings, Arsenal have now shifted their focus to Zubimendi’s international and club teammate Mikel Merino. Merino is close to join Arsenal, but is also wanted by FC Barcelona. The decision may come down to the player.
Arsenal’s attacking targets
Arsenal are interested to sign a winger and a striker. The Gunners want to decrease the load on Bukayo Saka by signings his backup. Recently, the reports suggested that Gunners may sign Raphinha. Barcelona are prepared to sell Raphinha after the emergence of 17-year-old Lamine Yamal.
Gunners have also joined the race for Nico Williams. However, Williams is a man in demand right now as he is wanted by several top clubs. Barca are also one of those clubs but may struggle to sign him due to their finances.
