The last round of games in the Premier League before the end of 2020 had a total of 12 goals scored. That is one goal lesser than what Liverpool and Manchester United combined to score in Gameweek 14.
COVID outbreaks caused two matches to be called off. Manchester City vs Everton had to be postponed after a number of City players tested positive.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Fulham too, was postponed in the eleventh hour after a number of Fulham players tested positive. The Premier League confirmed that over 18 players tested positive this week.
How the Premier League games went:
The round started off with Leicester City travelling to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace. Wilfried Zaha stuck a wonderful volley before Harvey Barnes equalized for Leicester. The game ended with the score as 1-1.
Chelsea vs Aston Villa too ended on the same score-line. Olivier Giroud showed his class to score the opener to give Chelsea the lead. El Ghazi nutmegged Eduardo Mendy early in the second half to equalize for Aston Villa.
Alexandre Lacazette scored 29 seconds after getting on the pitch to help Arsenal win the game 1-0. Burnley defeated Sheffield United with the same score-line after Ben Mee stuck at the half-hour mark.
Manchester United defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers to finish 2020 at 2nd in the league. Marcus Rashford’s deflected strike in 3rd minute of stoppage time gave United the much-deserved 3 points to finish 3 points behind Liverpool with a game in hand.
Southampton vs West Ham and Liverpool vs Newcastle ended as goalless draws. None of the sides managed to sneak in a goal throughout the game.
In the reunion of Championship sides, Leeds United thrashed West Brom away 0-5. Three of them were from outside the box and one of the three was an own-goal. An inspiring performance by the whole team had the first half finish 0-4.
Premier League Team of the Week:
Goalkeeper:
David de Gea(Manchester United)
Spectacular saves to keep a clean sheet. Denied Wolves at multiple occasions.
Defenders:
Kyle Walker-Peters(Southampton)
Stood strong on the right-wing. Made sure that West Ham could not maintain possession.
Eric Bailly(Manchester United)
Allowed United to go on the attack without bothering about the defence. Used his pace to counter the Wolves’ attack.
Ben Mee(Burnley)
Scored a goal to give Burnley 3 points. Did his defensive duties to maintain a clean sheet.
Ezgjan Alioski(Leeds United)
Blasted in a goal from the edge of the box to make the score 0-2. He was a threat all throughout the game.
Midfielders:
Nemanja Matić(Manchester United)
Executed the role of a defensive midfielder just as his manager would have wanted. Like Cavani, his experience is something the team heavily relies on.
Harvey Barnes(Leicester City)
Equalized for Leicester for a second successive game. He keeps showing week in, week out that he can do wonders even in the most unlikely situations.
Rodrigo(Leeds United)
Terrific on the ball. Split West Brom’s defence at multiple occasions. Scored a well deserved goal.
Forwards
Anwar El Ghazi(Aston Villa)
Brilliant finish to equalize. Has 5 goals from 8 appearances this season.
Pedro Neto(Wolverhampton Wanderers)
Kept the United defence on their toes all throughout the game. Has shown his class in recent games.
Bukayo Saka(Arsenal)
Always trouble for the opposition’s defence. Brilliant play before setting up for Lacazette.
Player of the Week:
Individual class separated team this week and we picked three of them – David de Gea, Rodrigo and Bukayo Saka.
The player of this week is Rodrigo. He was the heart of Leeds’ attack. His dribbling was jaw-dropping and he was unlucky to not score more. Mad lad.
