Premier League Team and Player of the Week – Gameweek 11

Premier League gameweek 11 has ended with an entertaining Monday night clash between Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton.

It was a week full of goals, no match finished 0-0. The combined tally of goals for this game week was 30 in just nine matches with over 3 goals a match ratio.

The opening Friday night match was postponed between Aston Villa and Newcastle United due to the spread of Covid-19 in the Newcastle camp, they had to shut down their training facility and isolate the whole team after several players and staff members tested positive in the last round of testing.

The biggest game of this game week was the North London derby between Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal. The match ended up 2-0 in the favour of the Spurs. Arsenal had almost 70% of the ball position but they only managed 2 on targets but none of them was enough to beat Hugo Lloris.

Arsenal now lost 6 of their 11 matches and sitting 15th and Tottenham is now the league leader in goal difference with 24 points in the same number of matches.

Liverpool continuing an unbelievable run in home matches in the Premier League. The last time they lost a home match in the league in the 16/17 season since then they are unbeaten at home. On Sunday night Liverpool beat Wolverhampton wanderers 4-0 where Salah equals the goal-scoring number with Cristiano Ronaldo in the EPL and he took 65 fewer matches. They are now equal with Tottenham at the top of the league.

Manchester United won yet another away game after trailing at first. They have now won five away matches from the same scenario. The Red Devils beat West Ham United 3-1. Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood, and Marcus Rashford were on the scoresheet. They are now 6th with 19 points in 10 matches.

Manchester City and Chelsea both were on the winning side. City beat Fulham 2-0 and Chelsea beat Leeds United by 3-1.

On the bottom of the table, nothing has changed Sheffield United still without a win, only 1 point in 11 matches, and West Brom and Burnley are the other two at the bottom of the table.

Premier League Team of the Week:

Caoimhin Kelleher (Liverpool)

The young 22-years-old Irish goalkeeper kept a clean sheet on his debut. He looked good on the ball and confident. He made 3 saves and one of them was excellent. Kelleher’s handling was solid and he could solve the second goalkeeper spot over Adrian.

Kurt Zouma (Chelsea)

Kurt Zouma has been in excellent form this season. He scored the second goal for Chelsea against Leeds United. It was his 4th goal in just 10 matches, an excellent figure for a centre-back. He looked solid throughout the match and he helped Chelsea to become way more solid in defence this season than the last.

Joël Matip (Liverpool)

Joël Matip looked solid against Wolverhampton than Brighton. He scored the third goal of the match from a great header. If he could stay fit he could fill the void of Virgil Van Dijk. No wolves player was able to beat Liverpool’s defence for his good display in both attack and defence.

Jannik Vestergaard (Southampton)

Jannik Vestergaard scored the crucial equaliser against Brighton. A great corner was taken by James Ward-Prowse for the goal and equally excellent header by Vestergaard. He was aerially unbeatable as well as in-ground duels. He was a rock at the back in this game week and helped Southampton to finish 5th this week.

Central Midfielders:

Jordon Henderson (Liverpool)

Jordan Henderson played an excellent match yet again in the victory of Liverpool. He helped young right back Neco Williams defensively and also assisted the second goal and the first goal of Georginio Wijnaldum. Overall it was a flawless performance from him.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (Tottenham Hotspurs)

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is turning out to be the perfect man for Jose Mourinho’s style of football. He marshalled the back excellently and sitting right in front of the back absorbed everything in the North London derby. He is now the undroppable player for Tottenham.

Attacking Midfielder:

Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)

Kevin De Bruyne was in sublime form against Fulham. He converted the penalty and assist the other goal for Raheem Sterling. De Bruyne created 2 big chances in this match, even hit the woodwork once. He is looking good after a slow start from his standard.

Right Winger:

Mohammed Salah (Liverpool)

Mohammed Salah is showing his consistency level yet again. After recovering from covid it was his second match and nothing has changed in his performance, scored the first goal from a defensive mistake, and created the third goal for Matip. It was his 9th league goal of the season.

Left Winger:

Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspurs)

The first goal against Arsenal may already be the best goal of the season. Like last season he may win the goal of the season as well with that wonderful 40 yards strick. He assisted the second goal for Harry Kane. Son is now 2nd in the goal-scoring chart with 10 goals. He is helping Spurs fan to dream about the title after almost 60 years.

Centre Forward:

Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)

Wilfried Zaha is showing how important he is for Crystal Palace. He returns after self-isolation with a great performance. Zaha scored two goals against West Brom. He scored 7 goals in just 9 matches. His performance helped Palace to win 5-1 over West Brom.

Centre Forward:

Christian Benteke (Crystal Palace)

Christian Benteke scored for Crystal Palace in almost five months. He came up with a brace against West Brom. It was his first goal this season and his performance this match earned him a place in our team of the gameweek 11.
