PSG boss Luis Enrique has made a statement about their upcoming Champions League opponent Arsenal.
The French boss has commented on Arsenal’s style of play and game tactics. Luis also said that the Gunners are among the top teams in the world. Both the French and the English clubs meet each other on Tuesday match day 2 of the Champions League 2024-2025.
Arsenal fell just short of glory last year after Manchester City won the Premier League title last year. The Gunners were short of just 3 points to win the title from the current champions. Mikel Arteta has regathered his men and made a strong start to the Premier League run this season.
They were given a chance to take revenge against their title rivals but both the teams shared a point in a fierce battle. Arsenal currently sits in the third position of the Premier League table with 14 points just below Manchester City.
A recent win over Leicester City will be a confidence boost for Arteta’s men in the upcoming clash against PSG. The Gunners registered a dominant win 4-1 win over Leicester. Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz were the goalscorers for Arsenal. An unfortunate own goal from Leicester’s Wilfred Ndidi added to the score tally.
Paris Saint-Germain have also also had an excellent start to their Ligue 1 campaign of 2024-2025. They have won 5 of their six games with one match that ended in a draw. PSG sits on top of the Ligue 1 leaderboard for now.
Arsenal and PSG had a disappointing end to their previous Champions League campaign. Bayern Munich knocked out Arsenal in the second leg of the quarter-finals. Borussia Dortmund eliminated Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the semi-final.
What PSG boss had to say about their opponents
Luis Enrique seems to be rather confident in his club facing the Premier League giants in the Champions League.
Enrique had nothing but praises for Mikel Arteta as the main man of the Gunners. The manager said that he considers Arsenal as one of the best teams in Europe. While talking to the media Luis said-
“I think they are one of the best teams in Europe. They are a team with a real identity”.
The PSG boss added that his team and players have a similar mindset. The only difference that separates the two sides is their style of play. Enrique has also seen some game time alongside Arteta as they played together briefly with Barcelona.
Arsenal and PSG have not faced each other under Enrique’s and Arteta’s wing. The managers are confident that their teams will display good football performances and look to rise up in the Champions League table.
The Gunners faced a goalless draw against Atlanta on the first match day of the Champions League. Arteta’s side missed some big chances in the game which could prove to be clinical in the future. Arenal’s hero in the match was David Raya as he saved a crucial penalty that was awarded to Atlanta. Raya has been one of the most important players for the Gunners all season.
PSG faced Girona on matchday 1 of the European competition. The Parisian club just edged over a victory over their opponents. An own goal from Girona’s Paulo Gazzaniga helped Paris Saint-Germain gain a point.
Matchday 2 however will be extremely important for the two clubs. A win in this match will help them rise in the table. It would be interesting to see how Arteta and Enrique will line up their team. There are many players injured from the Gunners. The Parisian side will remain much unchanged except their star player Ousmane Dembele who will miss out in this clash.
Why is Dembele out of the Parisian squad?
There are rumours that has been a heated argument between the PSG head coach Luis Enrique and their Forward player Ousmane Dembele.
The 27-year-old has been axed from the PSG squad ahead of the team facing Arsenal on matchday 2 of the Champions League. Dembele has scored four times for the club in their Ligue 1 fixtures this season. The absence of the forward could prove to be beneficial for Arsenal.
Enrique has stated that Ousmane has been left out of the squad due to disciplinary reasons. Dembele had some heated arguments with the head coach after PSG’s 3-1 win against Rennes earlier this week. The coach said that Ousmane has not travelled with the team to London as ‘he did not comply or respect the expectations of the team’.
Arsenal will host Paris Saint-Germain at the Emirates Stadium on 2nd October. This matchup will be on matchday 2 of the Champions League.
