Qatar Sports Investments wants to expand their operations to Serie A with Sampdoria

Football Express

Paris Saint-Germain are owned by the Qatar-based Qatar Sports Investments led by Chairman, Mr. Nasser Al-Khelaifi. The ownership has transformed the Paris-based club into one of the most lucrative clubs in the world. The ambition of the owners has helped lure world-class players to the French Capital in the past few seasons. The group is now looking to expand operations to Italy with the acquisition of Sampdoria.

Sampdoria is a club in the Italian Serie A based out of Genoa. The club is considered to be a mid-table club in the Italian Serie A. However, the club is struggling to perform this season and is engrossed in a relegation battle with other underperformers.

Qatar Sports Investments could be looking to buy the club with an objective to transform the club like Paris Saint-Germain. However, the challenge with Sampdoria will be tougher when compared to Paris Saint-Germain. Sampdoria has not won a domestic title since 1994 and has struggled to compete with the top Italian teams in recent years.

Sampdoria reflects the perfect opportunity as the club can be bought cheaply

The club is struggling this season and has just two points in Serie A. They are sitting at the rock bottom of the table in 20th place. In such a scenario the club could be sold for less than the market value and a favorable deal is quite likely for the Qatar-based investors.

Another interesting situation is that if the club fails to ensure Serie A’s survival and gets relegated then the deal could be skewed further in favor of the Paris Saint-Germain owners. However, another option for the prospective buyers could be to complete a deal before the January transfer window and help the club in staying in Serie A.

Sampdoria already has a talented pool of players in the form of Manolo Gabbiadini, Fabio Quagliarella, and Harry Winks. With smart investment into the core areas, the team can really put up strong performances to ensure survival in the league. However, long-term planning will be essential for the squad rebuilding in the upcoming windows. Let’s see if the investors will be interested to buy the club mid-season or after the league season concludes!
