Chelsea 1-1 Aston Villa: Player Ratings and Man of the Match

After spending heavily in the summer everyone thought Chelsea will be the title contender and they even started like that but recent poor performance now pulled them out of the top four spots. They are now with just a single victory in the last five matches.

Chelsea drew against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge by 1-1 on Monday night. Frank Lampard’s unwanted player Oliver Giroud put them ahead in the first half. But Anwar El Ghazi equalised for Villans.

Giroud now scored 7 goals in his last five starts in all competitions for Chelsea but for some reason, Lampard does not fancy him in every match and Tammy Abraham plays over him.

Chelsea are now in 6th position with 26 points in 16 Premier League games and Aston Villa have achieved the same number of points in two fewer matches and sitting 5th in goal difference.

Player Ratings Chelsea 1-1 Aston Villa:

Edouard Mendy(GK) – (5.5/10): Made an early save from Jack Grealish but should have saved the goal as it went through his legs and also beaten all ends up from the John McGinn 30 yards shot.

Cesar Azpilicueta(RB) – (6/10): It was a tough evening for him as he had problems defending against El Ghazi and Grealish. Defensively he wasn’t at his best.

Antonio Rudiger(CB) – (6/10): Kept Ollie Watkins quiet and tried to contribute in Deadball situations as well in attack. Overall a good match from him.

Andreas Christensen(CB) – (6/10): Made his first appearance in the league since the red card at Anfield against Liverpool. He was pretty solid in the game but on the goal, he made a silly challenge and stayed on the ground Villa took the advantage of one man down to score the equaliser.

Ben Chilwell(LB) – (6.5/10): Looked good in this game and produced a great cross for Giroud to score the goal. But in defence, he didn’t look solid.

Jorginho(CDM) – (6/10): Didn’t read the danger and made few unnecessary fouls and too passive with the ball. Eventually substituted in the second half.

N’Golo Kante(CM) – (6/10): He had to play higher up the field which is not his position so he looked ineffective but made few good defensive contributions in the second half when he played in his preferred position.

Mason Mount(CM) – (6.5/10): Played the match after 48 hours but he was still looked he can play one more. Worked hard and He covered more ground than anyone and shows more initiative in the final third than the rest of the squad’s midfielders.

Christian Pulisic(RW) – (5/10): Missed the best opportunity of the game in the first half, but he was lively and looked the biggest threat from the Chelsea side.

Callum Hudson-Odoi(RW) – (6/10): Played a good game looked good in the first half but he was lost in the second half.

Olivier Giroud(CF) – (7/10): Scored the goal in the first half but could not do anything significant apart from that and at the end substituted in the second half.

Used Substitutions:

Timo Werner(LW) – (6/10): Missed a half-chance to score his first goal in 10 games but apart from that nothing.

Kai Havertz(RW) – (5/10): Played for more than 20 minutes but completely anonymous. He had to identify by his shirt number, not by his performance.

Man of the match:

Oliver Giroud is our man of the match as he started the game and showed he should start over Abraham. Scored a super flying header to score the goal for Chelsea.
