GOMEZ TO POWER LEIPZIG AND RED BULL HOPE
Mario Gomez is a cult figure in Germany and was a very clinical centre-forward. He has played 328 times in Bundesliga and has scored 170 times. Apart from Stuttgart and Bayern, the 36-year-old has also made appearances for Wolfsburg in the German top league.
The German has also had a stint in Italy and Turkey playing for Fiorentina and Besiktas respectively. In his single season with Besiktas, he was the top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig with 26 goals. Gomez also has represented Germany 78 times and has scored 31 goals for Die Mannschaft.
RB Leipzig are currently struggling after both their manager Julian Nagelsmann and sporting director Markus Krosche left in the summer. CEO Mintzlaff is hoping that Gomez will provide the experience for the side and help the current manager Jesse Marsch on and off the field. There is also a long term plan to use Mario Gomez for developing relations between Red Bull’s partner clubs such as RB Salzburg and New York Red Bulls.
