RB Salzburg’s midfield sensation Dominik Szoboszlai has decided to join RB Leipzig according to recent reports.
RB Leipzig after knocking Manchester United out of the Champions League are set to come victorious in the race for Dominik Szoboszlai with the Hungarian poised sign a 5-year deal with the club. RB Leipzig are set to trigger his €25 million clause and the deal is expected to be announced before Christmas.
According to Sky Info, Salzburg’s sports director Christoph Freund was in Leipzig this week to negotiate the deal.
He is poised to become the second RB Salzburg player to move to RB Leipzig in space of 6 months after Hwang-Hee-Chan completed the switch in summer. After missing out on Erling Haaland 12 months ago, the German club couldn’t miss out on another talent. It is believed RB Leipzig’s run in the Champions League could have swayed Hungarian’s decision.
Major European clubs including Arsenal, Real Madrid, and AC Milan tracked Szoboszlai’s progress. But he rejected their interests to sign with RB Leipzig.
Arsenal are in desperate need of an attacking midfielder. So as a result they could turn to Christian Eriksen or Houssem Aouar. Inter Milan are reported to be interested in a swap deal for Eriksen with Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka.
In space of a year, RB Salzburg have lost Minamino, Haland, Hwang Hee-Chan, and now Szoboszlai. Meanwhile, RB Salzburg are 2nd in the Austrian Bundesliga. But their UEFA Champions League run came to the end with a defeat against Atletico Madrid on matchday 6 as they dropped into Europa League.
La Liga champions Real Madrid rumoured to be interested in versatile midfielder. Premier League giants Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were also linked with the 20-year-old Szoboszlai.
