According to a report from Spanish publication AS, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona to go head-to-head in the race to sign Sevilla goalkeeper Alfonso Pastor in the summer transfer window.
Pastor is the product of the Sevilla youth academy and currently plays for the club’s B team where he has appeared 36 times.
He made his senior debut earlier this season in the group stages of the Champions League, filling in for the injured Bono and Tomas Vaclik.
The Spaniard has shown a good mental strength to recover from a debut to forget after he conceded four goals against Chelsea.
Olivier Giroud had scored four on the night that he wasn’t even meant to be playing. He made impressive saves on the night to keep the scoreline respectable, but conceding four on debut is a bitter pill for any keeper to swallow.
The young shot-stopper is in the final few weeks of his contract with Sevilla. This has caught the eyes of two Spanish giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
Real Madrid and Barcelona leads the race for Pastor
Pastor is on the radar of big European clubs such as Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, and Villareal but it seems Real Madrid and Barcelona are leading the race.
Madrid has Thibaut Courtois and Andriy Lunin in their goalkeeping department on the first team, while Diego Altube is the third-choice.
So, there could be a spot for Pastor at Madrid’s Castilla outfit before he pushes onto first-team football at the Santiago Bernabeu.
As for Barcelona, Andre Ter Stegen, one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga is their No. 1. But, second choice Neto is on his way out at end of the season, which means a vacancy needs to be filled in.
Inaki Pena will be the second choice, while Arnau Tenas to be the third choice. This means there’s a spot in the Barcelona B team for Pastor.
If both the giants approaches the player it will be interesting to see who Pastor will chose to join for the next seasons.
