According to Marca, Real Madrid has set their sights on Stade Rennais F.C. midfielder Eduardo Camavinga over a move this summer.
The 18-year-old has been linked with Real Madrid earlier, but the move failed due to some poor transfer negotiations and high value set by Rennes. But the youngster could be moving to Los Blancos this summer.
Camavinga came through the youth ranks of Rennes. He broke into the first team towards the end of the 2018/19 campaign. However, it was the last season during which the teenage midfielder enjoyed a proper breakthrough.
He played a key role in securing his team a third-place finish in Ligue 1. Camavinga can play as a holding or an attacking midfielder. He has scored 1 goal while also providing 2 assists in 25 appearances.
This season he has 33 appearances while scoring 1 goal and 2 assists. He has put a great performance despite his club not making it into the top three this year.
Despite his poor goal-scoring form, he has been able to attract some of the big clubs with his playing style. Clubs currently interested in signing him are Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.
The youngster is under contract until June 2022 and is yet to renew his contract with Rennes. This has given hopes to other clubs to sign him.
Real Madrid looking for Midfield options- Why Camavinga?
Real Madrid is believed to be having a busy summer as they might try to reinforce their attacking and defending options mainly, but now it seems they are also looking for midfield options.
It is no doubt that Madrid has a dynamic midfield duo of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos who have put a great performance this year.
But Madrid are also thinking of their age as Modric turns 36 this season while Toni Kroos has already entered his 30’s which means they are nearing their retirement age. Madrid are looking to replace the duo while they are still in the team as they might be helpful in preparing their successor to get accustomed to their playing style.
It is no doubt Real Madrid is targeting Camavinga as a replacement. The youngster has a huge potential and has a lot to learn in his career. He will fit perfectly in the Madrid midfield and will offer a great advantage due to his versatility.
Madrid should really go forward with the deal but keep in mind not spending a huge amount on the youngster. The Los Blancos might need transfer funds to land some forwards and defenders for next season.
