Real Madrid bids adieu to club legend Marcelo

Real Madrid parted ways with club legend Marcelo Viera yesterday after an incredible 15-year journey. The Brazillian couldn’t hold back his tears as Santiago Bernabeu held his farewell ceremony on 13th June 2022.

Marcelo’s story at Real Madrid

Signed from Fluminense in 2007 as a successor for Roberto Carlos, the Brazilian played 545 times for Los Blancos, netting 38 goals and providing 103 assists in all competitions. 

Marcelo went on to become Real Madrid’s most decorated player in the club’s history. The Brazillian boasts 6 La Liga titles, 3 UEFA Super Cups, 2 Copa Del Reys, 5 Super Copa De Espana, 4 FIFA Club World Cups, and 5 Champions League titles to his name.

His legacy in the Spanish capital now comes to an end after 15 incredible years. The 34-year-old will surely be an inspiration to the future players at Real. And Marcelo Viera would be a name engraved within the walls of Santiago Bernabeu.

Marcelo’s farewell

The Brazillian became very emotional in the Bernabeu on Monday. With Madrid fans packed in the stadium, the atmosphere surely meant the whole night would be memorable for the 34-year-old.

Fellow teammates including Luka Modric and Toni Kroos showered the left-back with their heartfelt messages. Former teammates from Raphael Varane to Cristiano Ronaldo, everyone poured in their share of love for Marcelo.

“To play in the best championships and important matches and win five Champions Leagues. I am still not aware of what we have achieved today. And I want to thank the fans who have supported us in Madrid and here in Paris,”

the Madrid captain told reporters during his farewell night.

“I have been at Real Madrid for many years. I’m lucky to play for the best club in the world,”

Marcelo concluded.

Where should Marcelo join this Summer?

Marcelo stated he is unclear about his future, but ruled out retiring or returning to Brazil, indicating that he chooses to stay in Europe and play for a team that will compete in the Champions League next season.

“I don’t think much about the future, I like to live in the moment. But it’s really hard to leave the club that you played your entire life,”

Marcelo stated.

“I’m not scared about the future. I’ve done what I wanted here and I’m looking forward to what’s next. Not with fear of uncertainty, but with excitement.”

he added.

Linked to multiple European teams like Fenerbache and Marseille, Marcelo’s contract with Real Madrid ends on the 30th of June, 2022.
