Real Madrid Captain faces injury setback

What prevented

Real Madrid has started the season in scintillating form. They are yet to taste defeat in any competition. Yet the reigning Champions League winners faced a huge injury setback. Captain Karim Benzema was injured in the match against Celtic in the new season of the Champions League. The French international was substituted in the 30th minute of the game. Eden Hazard came on to replace him.

The player’s right knee was clearly in agony and appeared to have a muscular strain. The Real Madrid medical staff conducted further tests to get a hold of his injury. Following the tests, the official Twitter handle of the club tweeted;

“Following tests carried out on our player Karim Benzema by the Real Madrid Medical Services; he has been diagnosed with an injury to the semitendinosus tendon and a strain to the quadricep muscle in his right thigh.” “His recovery will continue to be assessed.

Real Madrid’s Talisman will miss a week or more

According to a report by a local Spanish outlet, Diario AS, the talisman has suffered bursitis in his right knee. The player would be out for seven to ten days before returning to full fitness. Real Madrid faces the Madrid Derby against Atletico Madrid on Sunday, 18th of September.

Without Benzema, Eden Hazard produced one of his best performances in a Real Madrid shirt against Celtic. However, it would not be very smart to rely on the Belgian to fill his shoes of Benzema.

Without Benzema, coach Ancelotti lacks suitable replacements. Rodrygo, Modric, Eden, and Mariano have played in his place before. However, the Madrid derby is a serious match. Benzema is not entirely ruled out for the game. Yet the chances of him playing in it are slim. Ancelotti would hope for his return before the Derby.
