Real Madrid eyeing a move for Liverpool’s midfielder

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring Liverpool player, Fabinho. He has been considered as a replacement for Raphael Varane, who is currently chased by various clubs.

The 27-year-old versatile defensive midfielder has been a key player for the Reds. But, considering the current situation of Jurgen Klopp’s side, he might be forcing a move away from Anfield.

Los Blancos are currently in the race to sign the emergency center-back although his contract expires on 2022-23 season. The La Liga side are also looking to offload various key players due to their poor financial condition.

A return to Real Madrid on the cards for Fabinho?

Fabinho has made 117 appearances for the Merseyside club after moving from French side, AS Monaco in 2018. The Brazillian played an important role for the club in winning the Champions League in 2018-19 season and then, the Premier League in the following season.

However, the current season has been a disappointing one as the club is now sitting at 6th place. It has a been a poor title defence as leaders Manchester City are 23 points above them.

According to reports, Fabinho might be moving to the club where he had a loan stint back in 2013. The decision is on the basis of Manchester United and Chelsea’s interest in Raphael Varane. The Galacticos coach Zinedine Zidane is believed to be a big fan of the defensive midfielder.

The Madrid club is currently in a financial crisis and now, as the European Super League concept has been a failure, the transfer of Varane might be beneficial. Also, the club is eyeing transfers for some big names like David Alaba, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe. Thus, many of the players might be leaving Spain and Premier League might be their new challenge.
