Real Madrid Eyes William Saliba as Defensive Solution

Real Madrid has targeted a new defender. Arsenal’s William Saliba is the man the Spanish team wants. if they managed to get him, they could certainly have their next star defender for years to come.

Right now Real Madrid needs new defenders. One of their main players, Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal, are injured. They will end up not playing any more of the season. It has been a big problem for the team. They’re now on the lookout for new defenders to ship in ahead of January.

They could have their quick fix in the shape of Aymeric Laporte. Former Manchester City man, he now plays in Saudi Arabia for Al-Nassr. Laporte wants to come back to European football. When he was asked about Real Madrid’s interest he said ‘simple’. He had only read on social media. “Real Madrid, again, big team, they are always fascinating for me.”

However, Rafael Alkorta, who ran Athletic Bilbao’s transfers in the past, believes Real Madrid should think twice before moving for an Al Nassar defender. Instead, he believes they should attempt to bring Arsenal’s William Saliba to the club. He said: ‘They should wait until summer’. That’s €80m spent on Saliba; it makes sense. “They could play him for ten years,” he said.” Playing for Arsenal, Saliba has become one of the best defenders in world football.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is also wanted by Real Madrid. Next summer his contract with Liverpool expires. That means he could move to Real Madrid for free. He wants to finish this season with Liverpool and then, perhaps, move on, according to sources.

William Saliba to Real Madrid?

Real Madrid’s situation is only getting more complicated. They sit top of Spanish football but their defensive problems could cost them a shot at winning trophies. But they have lost just two games this season, with both losses illustrating their defensive frailties. Since Militao and Carvajal weren’t available they’re playing backup players who are not seasoned.

This season has been worse than last year when Real Madrid have let in more goals. They had only let 15 goals in, at this point last season. They’ve already allowed 22 this season. It’s because they need different defenders. Right now they have young backup defenders and they need a bit more experience for a big game.

There is no problem with money at Real Madrid. Last summer they saved funds by not splashing on new players. And they now have about €200 million saved up for new signings. They’re in a great position to buy top defenders like Saliba. Every player has a price and Arsenal does not want to sell him.

Real Madrid will look to their defensive choices to shape their future. So if they get Saliba, they’ll have a great defence for a lot of years. At 22, he’s only getting better. Football experts think his style would be perfect in Spanish football. He does play in a good Real Madrid style, calm, and good passing.

Madrid ready for summer

Real Madrid could also change how Trent Alexander-Arnold plays. But he’s not just a defender – he can open up chances of scoring as well. He made 12 assists last season for Liverpool. The extra attacking options from the back would be something, not only for himself but Real Madrid.

Real Madrid is not rushing their decisions out and the latest news shows that. Their eyes are studying several games each week, different defenders. This season they’ve sent scouts to watch Saliba. And they’re also watching how Alexander-Arnold plays at Liverpool.

Real Madrid knows they must make these decisions. They require the correct defenders to help continue winning trophies. These transfer plans are all the work of their president, Florentino Perez himself. With so many young players coming in, he thinks it’s important to get the right defenders now and have a team for many years.
