Real Madrid have already set their eyes on potential 2025 summer transfer window moves. The Los Blancos have already signed two top tier players this window. Arguably the best player in the world right now, Kylian Mbappe and future prospect Endrick. Despite having an world class squad, valued almost around €1.8billion, they have seemed to struggle so far in the season.
After the retirement of the one and only ‘Sniper’ aka Toni Kroos, Madrid have lost their momentum and ball control. As Zizou once said, “What Barcelona does with 40 passes, Toni Kroos does with one.” This statement have been justified as we can see how the Los Blancos are struggling without him to carry forward the ball. Though Valverde took over his number 8 jersey but he cannot replace his presence as the Uruguayan is more effective as a box-to-box midfielder.
So, Madrid would definitely like to find a player with a ball passing ability like Kroos. However, they are also struggling in the defense. Lack of quality fullbacks and injured center backs have been a major problem for the Los Blancos since last season.
Madrid eyeing for Saliba move?
Real’s main defender David Alaba is out until 2025. He is recovering slowly from his ACL injury that he got last December. His partner Eder Militao has also suffered from a similar injury. Though Militao has returned to the squad but he is still bearing some minor fitness issues. Last season we saw the duo of Nacho and Rudiger in the back most of the times. Even defending midfielder Tchouaméni was paired up with Rudiger in the absence of Nacho.
After the departure of captain Nacho this season, Madrid have only three defenders in their squad. Even if Alaba returns in time in January 2025, he will not be able to perform in his best level after missing a year of football. So, Real will definitely like to explore their options for a defender in the upcoming transfer windows.
Rumors suggest that the Los Blancos are interested in the French defender William Saliba. There are not many center backs as good as Saliba currently. The Frenchman’s performance in the recent Euros was top class. He was also included in the Euro 2024 team of the tournament. Saliba had an ball recovery average of 5.17 per game. He also managed to have a 95% pass accuracy.
He has also been the key face of Arsenal’s backline through the past seasons. With the help of Saliba the Gunners had the most clean sheets(16) in the Premier League last season. Apart from his solid tackles, aerial duels and other traits he is also a threat for the opposition side in set-pieces. Saliba has everything that Real would want in a defender.
However, it will be a hard job for the Bernabeu management to get the Saliba deal done. As Arsenal considers the 23-year-old defender as one of their main players for their project. So, they have also figured out a replacement option, Cristian Romero from the Spurs.
Real’s other summer targets
Apart from a center back the Los Blancos will also be looking for a midfielder and a fullback. Club legend Luka Modric’s contract runs out at the end of the next season. There’s a very slim chance for Modric to serve as a Madrid player next season as he turned 39 earlier this month. Real’s one of the most loyal servant Lucas Vasquez also runs out of contract next season and it seems there will not be a new contract for him. And even Dani Ceballos will not continue for the Blancos next season. He was already very close to joining his childhood club Real Betis this window but Ancelotti convinced him to stay.
In the absence of Modric, Madrid will definitely lack bench quality as the Croatian have been a great help coming from the bench since last season. To regain their control in the game the Blancos are again plotting to bring in some top quality players next window.
As per the reports of The Independent, the Spanish giants are in the race for the Bayer Leverkusen star boy Florian Wirtz. Leverkusen’s manager Xabi Alonso can play a crucial role to convince Wirtz to join Madrid. As he himself is the top candidate to replace Ancelotti next season. Real are also keen to sign Liverpool‘s Trent Alexander-Arnold who can operate both as a midfielder and fullback. So it will be a very exciting window for the Blancos next season.
