Cadena SER reported that Real Madrid contacted Gabri Veiga for a potential transfer in the upcoming window. However, the La Liga champions are not willing to pay his €40 million release clause. Instead, they will propose €25 million and a player exchange for the young Spanish talent.

With an impressive professional football debut in September 2020, Gabri Veiga has become a much sought-after player in the transfer market. The 20-year-old progressed through Celta Vigo’s academy and is now a key player for the team. He made significant progress in a short time.

During the 2022/23 season, Gabri Veiga has had a remarkable performance and scored vital goals for Celta Vigo. He earned a total of eight goals and three assists in 24 La Liga matches. His outstanding progress has garnered the interest of many prominent teams, including Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will need to acquire a midfielder during the upcoming transfer window due to the aging of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. These two veterans have been integral to the team’s success over the past ten years. But they are nearing the end of their careers. Thus, it is essential for Real Madrid to establish a succession plan for Modric and Kroos.

Why are Real Madrid shifting their focus on Gabri Veiga?

Real Madrid’s main target for the summer transfer window is Jude Bellingham, but his high price could pose a challenge. Therefore, they are also pursuing a deal for a second midfielder, and Gabri Veiga has emerged as a potential option for the club.

Real Madrid has already reached out to Gabri Veiga and is willing to offer him a long-term deal. However, the transfer will not be easy since Celta Vigo is pointing to Veiga’s €40 million release clause. Despite this, Real Madrid is only prepared to offer €25 million and a player to sign the 20-year-old. It is likely that Rafa Marin will be the player involved in the exchange deal, but his future with the club remains uncertain.

It remains to be seen if Celta Vigo will accept Real Madrid’s offer of a player-plus-cash deal or demand the full €40 million release clause for Gabri Veiga. However, the young Spanish midfielder is enthusiastic about joining Real Madrid and may even urge for a summer transfer. Discussions between Veiga’s representatives and Real Madrid are ongoing, and it is possible that a move could materialize.
