Real Madrid lack any qualitative replacement for Karim Benzema in the squad

Real Madrid

Karim Benzema is arguably the best striker in the world at the moment. Real Madrid are more than fortunate to have him in their squad as the French international almost singlehandedly powered them to UEFA Champions League triumph last season.

However, the club lacks any real replacements for the striker in the squad. In case of injury or any other unfortunate situation, the Manager is forced to look at players as false 9. This is primarily due to the lack of a second striker in the squad capable of playing regularly.

Mariano Diaz is the only other recognized striker in the squad but he has not been used a lot in the past few seasons. He was re-signed from Olympique Lyon to act as the backup for Karim Benzema. However, the player has failed to exert any real impact on the field for the club. Thus, the club needs to bring in a real replacement for the French striker.

Who can Real Madrid target in the coming windows?

Real Madrid tried to make a backup out of Luka Jovic when they signed him for a huge amount from Germany. However, the Serbian international did not succeed at the Santiago Bernabeu and failed to replicate his form from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Los Blancos should focus on some utility striker who is able to impact the game from the bench. Bayern Munich have Eric Maxim Choupo Moting who is experienced in terms of making an impact from the bench. He has proven an important asset for the club in recent seasons. It is a difficult art to master for players as they have to be decisive in the limited minutes given.

A smart option for the club can be re-signing Alvaro Morata as a backup to Karim Benzema from Atletico Madrid. However, the Spaniard may not come cheap as Atletico Madrid wanted a hefty sum for him this summer as well. But the striker has a proven goalscoring record in Spain which will give Real Madrid real options up top. Olivier Giroud can be a short-term option as he has a proven record coming off the bench and will be a cheaper alternative to Alvaro Morata for sure.

The Milan Striker has continued to perform for the Rossoneri as well, however, the Serie A champions will look to replace him with a younger forward next summer which can be an opportunity for Real Madrid. Let’s see how the Los Blancos add a secondary striker to the squad to relieve some pressure off Karim Benzema!!
