Real Madrid no longer unbeaten in Europe

key youngster

Real Madrid are looking to have another stellar season. Los Blancos have been nothing but sensational and brilliant for the last 2 seasons. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are one of the favorites once again this season for all major titles. It seems that beating them is not everyone’s cup of tea with the class and quality they have all over the pitch. The team seems to be reborn whenever they go behind. This has been one of the standouts for this season yet again. They were unbeaten the whole season with a perfect record in their UCL group. No team managed to get the better of them until RB Leipzig this week.

Real Madrid seemed all over the place against the German team. Everything went wrong as Ancelotti did not have a definite lineup. Nacho was playing CB and Rudiger played Lb which was an absurd decision. There are a lot of issues with this side that Carlo Ancelotti has to manage. But there is no denying that the defeat was an embarrassment as they now have given up their unbeaten record. Los Blancos have a comfortable position in the group and are currently top of their table. So, they did not take this game as serious as the others. But that does not hide the fact that the team’s defensive struggles are pretty much visible.

Eder Militao and David Alaba are Ancelotti’s first-choice CB’s. Given the quality between these 2, Real Madrid have conceded a lot in La Liga. Moreover, there have been games where they would have conceded a lot more if the opposition would have taken their chances. The team has been opened up defensively a lot as compared to other seasons which does question the tactics of the coach. Moreover, Karim Benzema has not enjoyed the best of starts this season. An injury against Celtic put the Frenchman out for 2-3 weeks and looks to have disrupted his goal-scoring a bit. He has scored just 5 goals in La Liga and is a lot behind Lewandowski in the race.

A lot to improve for Ancelotti and his men

The good news for Real Madrid is that Thibaut Courtois is back from his injury. The Belgian has enough quality to hide his defense’s flaws with his ridiculous shot-stopping. The likes of Tchouameni and Rudiger have settled in well but it does take some toll with No Ramos, Varane, and even Casemiro. As good and clinical as they have been, their defensive positions have been extremely poor.

David Alaba and Eder Militao have a habit of venturing forward which leaves a lot of gaps in the defense. This makes it very difficult for them to keep track of passes and interceptions. Moreover, the team struggles a lot keeping a low block. The attack is the quite opposite of the defense and it makes sense as the defense suffers at the expense of the attack. The right profile players are still not there who can track back and help out.
