Real Madrid star likely to exit the club

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Real Madrid is off to a great start in the new season. The club has yet to taste defeat in their matches this season.

While all the players share great chemistry, Marco Asensio is the black sheep. The Spanish international is at crossroads with the Los Blancos board over a contract extension. The board did place a new contract extension for Asensio. The Spanish international, however, declined to sign it. Asensio anticipates receiving a higher wage than what is specified in the contract. However, the club has denied that it had approached Asensio with any formal proposition. It will not, however, engage in any discussions over a contract extension with Asensio.

Last year, the Spanish winger scored 12 goals. It was the most fruitful season in Asensio’s seven years in the capital club. The international player from Spain has made just two substitute appearances for Real Madrid this year and has played just 17 minutes total.

Real Madrid’s Asensio has attracted interest

With the player’s uncertain times ahead, European clubs have already shown their interest in the player. Barcelona and Manchester United are two of those. Both Barcelona and Man United intend to make a move for Asensio when the transfer market reopens in the New Year, according to El Chiringuito TV, via Caught Offside.

Asensio, who may leave Real Madrid for free in the summer of 2023, would be eligible to talk pre-contract deals with interested clubs starting in January.

Real Madrid coach Ancelotti has claimed before Relevo his intentions over the Asensio situation.

“Marco is looking at things to see if he can leave. If he doesn’t leave, he will 100% be a Madrid player. I don’t know anything new about Asensio; he is evaluating his situation.”

It would be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months.
