According to several reports, Real Madrid are interested to sign the Portuguese right-back Diogo Dalot this summer. Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep an option in hand if his first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal fails to perform next season.

Diogo Dalot started his football career at the youth ranks of FC Porto, following which he got his first team appearance in 2018. However, he was signed by Manchester United in July 2018 after playing 8 matches for the Portuguese side. The Red Devils paid £19 million in order to secure the services of the right-back.

The 22-year-old got a decent game time in his first season at Old Trafford as he appeared 25 times in all competitions. But his second season was not according to his expectations as he was called up only 11 times. This was mainly because United signed  Aaron Wan-Bissaka in 2019 who replaced the Portuguese in the right-back position.

Following his less game time at United, he was sent on a one-year loan to AC Milan. Dalot enjoyed a good amount of game time in Italy as he appeared 34 times in all competitions. While he also played a part in AC Milan’s second finish in the Serie A table. This is important to note as the Italian side returned to the Champions League after 8 long years.

Dalot still has two years left in his contract with Manchester United, but he might leave the club this summer. As United have set their priority to play Wan-Bissaka at the right-back position. While it is also rumored that the club is trying to sign Kieran Trippier for the same position this summer. And following this situation of Dalot Real Madrid are interested to sign the defender this summer.

Real Madrid wants to strengthen the right-back position by signing Dalot

Real Madrid had a disappointing season after going trophyless, following which they assigned a new manager Carlo Ancelotti for next season. The Italian needs to restructure the team after this horrific performance from Los Blancos. Madrid needs to focus on two positions where they lacked the most, attacking and defending.

And for the stater Ancelotti is looking into adding a new right-back this summer. Madrid’s first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal was out of the team for most of the matches due to injury. Following which Zinedine Zidane appointed Lucas Vazquez to fill up the spot. But Vazquez also had some injury issues during the season. And at last, Zidane turned to Alvaro Odriozola to play as the right-back.

It is pretty much clear how Madrid struggled in the right-back position for the whole season. Following which Ancelotti wants to invest some of the money in the right-back spot. And the Italian has turned to Diogo Dalot to solve this problem next season.

However, Real Madrid have not officially approached Manchester United regarding the signing of the youngster. But if Madrid approaches then they might face an £18 million price tag for landing the right-back this summer. Which seems to be high as compared to his recent performances. So, let’s wait and see if Real Madrid will table an offer for Diogo Dalot or not.
