In an unprecedented year, we are experiencing strange things in football as well. Where Barcelona struggling to win league matches, Real Madrid also struggling to win easy matches and Atletico Madrid are the favourite to win the La Liga title.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Preview:

Real Madrid hasn’t had a good start to the season, they already have lost 13 points and lost 3 games in just 11 matches. They already conceded the half amount of goals as last season and it’s not even halfway through the season.

La Liga champions struggled to score goals this season, Last season’s top two goalscorers Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos were injured for almost one month which cost them even more, and star man Eden Hazard is struggling with injuries since his arrival at Santiago Bernabeu.

In their last league match, Zinedine Zidane chose a pragmatic approach against Sevilla and they won the match by 1-0 after two losses in a row. It’ll be interesting to see against a side like Atletico, will they take the same approach or not.

Atletico Madrid is having a great start to their season. They are unbeaten in the league and playing a pretty good brand of football which is unusual from Diego Simeone’s side. Atletico have scored 21 goals and conceded only 2 so far, with 8 clean sheets.

They are sitting at the top of the league with 26 points in just 10 matches with 8 wins and 2 draws. They are 12 points ahead of Barcelona and one point ahead of Real Sociedad who are 2nd in the league and played two more matches.

The Portuguese wonderkid Joao Felix has been in great form this season for Simeone’s side. He may be the best player so far in the league, which is a huge compliment where Lionel Messi is in the league as well.

Atletico Madrid won their last 7 consecutive matches in La Liga and they beat Real Valladolid by 2-0 in their last match. Can they make the tally to nine successive victories by beating Real away from home? If they can do that then they must be the champion of this season surely.

Team News:

Sergio Ramos made his first appearance in midweek after a month because of a hamstring injury. Daniel Carvajal should be back as well after recovering from a groin injury.

The rest should be the same as it was in midweek against Borussia Monchengladbach. They comfortably won that match from a Benzema brace.

Striker Diego Costa and defender Jose Gimenez will be out from this clash for Atleti because of injuries apart from that they will get a full squad for the derby. They might go with the same team as they went in the midweek against Red Bulls Salzburg.

Thomas Lemer struggled since his big-money move to Atletico, but he played excellently against Valladolid so it will be intriguing to see if he gets the start in the big match or not.
