Lyon wonderkid Rayan Cherki reportedly favours a switch to PL champions Liverpool over Man Utd, according to recent reports.
Liverpool Lead the Race for Rayan Cherki, But Remain Cautious
For a long time, Rayan Cherki has been one of the most exciting young talents in European football. And he’s only 21 years old, with 182 senior appearances for Lyon.
The Frenchman has managed to score 29 goals and also has 44 assists. He is being monitored by several Premier League clubs for this summer.
He is priced at a fair £25m at the moment. It has been reported he wants to join Liverpool. However, Reds boss Arne Slot is taking a wait-and-see approach.
They have already got Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, and Mohamed Salah on their team. The Reds aren’t in desperate need of another wide attacker. Their top priority seems to be a striker to replace Darwin Nunez. He is expected to depart this summer. Newcastle‘s Alexander Isak is high on their wishlist for now.
United Talks Fade Out While Other Clubs Circling
While the Merseyside club remains Cherki’s preferred destination, his agent has been making the rounds. Manchester United were once seriously interested. But, recent reports claim their efforts are on hold. Meanwhile, Tottenham are showing real interest and could be a threat for Slot’s side for Cherki.
Fulham, West Ham and Crystal Palace have also expressed interest, but Rayan does not want to join a mid-table club. Newcastle United are another serious contender for him as well. Especially, after winning the Carabao Cup and a top five push in the Premier League.
The Reds’ could still act for the Frenchman. Also, they have to decide on the injured Federico Chiesa.
Furthermore, they are looking to land winger Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich.
So, Cherki’s future might come down to late decisions in the transfer window.
