Chelsea captain Reece James has been out from injury for a long time now. The 24-year-old has struggled with fitness for most of the time. But, there is finally some great news for the fans. The right-back is finally close to making a recovery. Hopefully, he will be on the field for the Blues very soon. He has been with the London side as a youth player since 2008. Only one season of his senior career was outside of the Blues’ camp. Even then, that season with Wigan Athletic was on a loan. So, we can clearly see the bond that he has with the club.
Reece James recovery update
We have seen him lose game time due to injuries quite often in the last few years. As per football.london, he has managed to only play around 800 minutes in the last 18 months. To give you a better estimate, after being with the club for 6 years, as per wikipedia, he has only managed to make 158 appearances. But, he did start this season well. He was looking good and quite able in the pre-season. But then, Reece James would go on to have a new hamstring issue with Chelsea. So, he has not been able to make any appearances this season. At the same time, he also suffered some setbacks in recovery. But now, he is finally being expected to return back to full training next week.
The sad end of things…
While the 24-year-old may be recovering, there are some hard facts we cannot ignore. The right-back is certainly very injury prone. He is a great player no doubt. But, his fitness levels hold him back big-time. Also, he is the club captain. So, the team does not benefit in any way from his absence. To make things worse, the Blues only have Malo Gusto to replace him. So players like Axel Disasi have to play out of position to ensure proper rotation.
