Chelsea and Liverpool are both planning to strengthen their defence next year. Both clubs are doing really well under new boss but the defence still stays a critical issue.
The Reds do have a good defence but their key man Virgil van Dijk is nearing the end of his career. His contract will expire at the end of this season. This will be a huge blow for Liverpool and hence they are planning for his potential replacement.
On the other hand, the Blues have developed really well offensively but their defence is still lacking. They could have been in much better place if their defence was better. Chelsea board have noticed it and are plotting some big moves.
Chelsea and Liverpool both interested in Castello Lukeba
As per CaughtOffside, both Premier League clubs are keen to sign the defender. Along with them, Real Madrid are also in the race to sign the 21 year old as they are keen to improve their defence.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has tweeted about Castello Lukeba’s future. He has updated that a new release clause of €90 million will come into play from summer 2025. He added that the release clause will change from season to season.
RB Leipzig will demand that any interested club should pay the full price mentioned in the release clause. They have recently tied the defender with contract running until 2029 so are in a good state when it comes to negotiation.
The 21 year old fits perfectly in Chelsea’s plans as they are not shy to spend big on young players. On the other hand, the Reds may hesitate a little but they will view the Frenchman as long term solution.
Lastly, Madrid are in desperate need of defender right now. Hence, they may do all in their powers to secure Lukeba’s signature. The final decision will depend on both the player and RB Leipzig.
