Renato Sanches remains the primary target for AC Milan to replace Franck Kessie

Renato Sanches

AC Milan won the Serie A title after a long wait last season. The Rossoneri were blessed by match-winning performances from players like Rafael Leao, Olivier Giroud, and Franck Kessie among others. However, one of these players has already left the club on a free transfer.

Franck Kessie has signed for Barcelona after his contract with AC Milan expired at the end of last season. The Ivorian is looking for a new challenge and has found a new home at the Spotify Camp Nou. The departure of Kessie has left a hole in AC Milan’s midfield.

The Rossoneri has been looking for a replacement in the market. One of the primary names linked with a move to Milan is Renato Sanches. The Portuguese midfielder is currently under contract at LOSC Lille. The midfielder has rejuvenated his career with the French side after a disappointing spell with Bayern Munich.

The Portuguese international is still 24 years old and has his best years ahead of him. AC Milan has identified the player as a long-term successor for Franck Kessie. The midfielder offers versatility as he can play as a box-to-box midfielder and as a deep-lying playmaker as well.

AC Milan is trying to close the deal amidst competition from PSG

Paris Saint-Germain is also interested to sign the midfielder to bolster their options. The French side has decided to part ways with Gini Wijnaldum and Idrissa Gueye ahead of the next season. Renato Sanches, thus, is an important target for Paris Saint-Germain as well.

However, the French champions are yet to make a serious offer for the midfielder to Lille. The Rossoneri should act swiftly if they intend to sign the player ahead of PSG. The Portuguese midfielder will be an important addition for Stefano Pioli as the club is short on depth in midfield.

Ismael Bennacer and Sandro Tonali are the only two central midfielders that the manager relies on. Paolo Maldini needs to sign a top-quality midfielder to ensure that the club has enough options to defend their Serie A title. AC Milan should solely focus on securing a move for the Portuguese international in the coming weeks as the start of the season is almost upon us.
