Rio Ferdinand praises Liverpool’s decision to snub Timo Werner and sign Diogo Jota


Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has showered praises on Diogo Jota before he could start his majestic career at Liverpool this season.

The former English defender appreciated Liverpool for the smart signing with the Portuguese international, who has been one of the most impactful players in the Premier League so far this campaign.

Rio Ferdinand stated on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE before adding, 

You’ve got to give time up for this man, Diogo Jota has come in and four goals in his first four starts for Liverpool [in the league],

“The recruitment at Liverpool – what they have done to get him, so far what he has produced – is fully justified.”

Rio Ferdinand questions Liverpool’s intention to sign Timo Werner and Diogo Jota

Liverpool’s decision to sign the 23-year-old Jota for £41 million was advantageous, as he was on target on Sunday against Leicester City as he surpassed in the second goal giving a 3-0 win for Liverpool.

Jota’s form had impressive attention from Ferdinand which he could highly speak off.

The Portuguese has quickly proved to be of an inspired purchase, giving support for the future of the Reds.

Ferdinand also compared Liverpool’s decision to not sign Timo Werner with Jota’s Signing. He stated that it was clear that the Reds were not into Chelsea forward, had the mind set on Diogo Jota already.

Liverpool were strongly linked with former RB Leipzig forward, but rivals Chelsea won the race to sign him in the summer transfer window. After few days Premier League Champions announced Diogo Jota’s arrival at Anfield.

Both Werner and Jota have made an instant impact at their new clubs with consistent goals. With the signing going so well, Ferdinand has wondered if the club were ever in for Werner, in reference to yesterday’s defeat to Atlanta.

The Portuguese international has scored a total of 8 goals in 12 matches after joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Summer.

Jota’s skillful performances are of critical importance to the Reds as the Club had to deal with a myriad of player injuries, especially in the defensive department.

It has thus, prompted Jurgen Klopp to scout the market for a new center-back, with Milan Skriniar among players identified as a potential option for the transfer.
