About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi could face-off in the Joan Gamper Trophy as Juventus take on Barcelona. The game will take place at the Camp Nou on Sunday, August 8.

It will be a double treat of football action, with the women’s sides for the respective clubs also facing off. The stadium will be limited to 20 per cent capacity, according to Covid-19 restrictions.

The game is held every year in August. Barca face the biggest oppositions from around the world. Past matches have seen Barcelona take on Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Boca Juniors.

In an official statement, Barca :

The Joan Gamper Trophy 2021, the 56th edition of the event, is going to be one with a very big difference. For the first time ever, it will be featuring not just the men’s team but the women too, with back-to-back games against the same side, none other than Juventus.

The Camp Nou will be the venue and the date is Sunday August 8. Jonatan Giráldez’s women’s team, the current European champions, will be kicking off at 6.00pm CEST, and Ronald Koeman’s men will be doing likewise at 9.30pm CEST.

The match-up brings back two legends of the game who previously were in contention in La Liga when Ronaldo was at Real Madrid. Ronaldo and Messi last met during the Champions League in December 2020. Clashes between the two have always never failed to impress.

Barca will play Girona, Stuttgart and Red Bull Salzburg before facing Juventus.

Messi will need to officially sign his contract extension with Barcelona before he is able to participate in the match. However, there is no guarantee it will be done in time as the club grapple with financial turmoil.
