Ever since the spat between Ronaldo and Rooney at the 2006 World Cup quarter-final, the relationship between the two has not been quite good whereas in recent times it seems to be degrading even more.
The former Manchester United teammates have been pointing out criticisms against each other. Meanwhile this has become the latest hot topic for football fans around the world. After Rooney’s remark that his former teammate’s behavior towards the club is unacceptable, Ronaldo didn’t hold back. He pointed out quite a few controversial remarks about Wayne during his interview with Piers Morgan.
Rooney when asked in an interview who is the better one between Messi and Ronaldo, he stood firm in his opinion. Meanwhile, just like in previous interviews, he called Messi the better one of the two. Comparing the current Argentina captain with Diego Maradona, Rooney speaks about their similarity. Moreover he pointed out that Messi is better and more complete as a footballer.
Remarks of Rooney on Ronaldo
Just before the opening match between Ecuador and Qatar, Rooney was questioned live on an Indian TV network JioCinema. He was asked regarding who he will keep in his all-time XI out of Messi, Ronaldo, and Harry Kane. He clearly states:
“I’d have to start Messi, bench Kane and leave Ronaldo out“
When asked about the reason he simply says:
“He’s not playing for his club, so…..”
While the spat between the two seems never-ending, it doesn’t change the fact that both are extremely renowned footballers and has already established themselves on the biggest stage and this ongoing turmoil isn’t going to affect their status quo.
The 38-year-old Portuguese star doesn’t really need to prove his worth amidst his critical situation with the club and his destroyed relationship with his former teammate and should now firmly focus on his first match against Ghana following Uruguay and South Korea and his performance might clear him of all the criticisms surrounding him at the moment.
On the other hand, Messi should definitely like to finish his international career with a glorious campaign with Argentina as they face Saudi Arabia in their opening match this Tuesday.
