RoundGlass Punjab FC set for the upcoming Hero I-League season that begins on January 9, 2021. The key player for Punjab FC will be promising 19-year-old center-back Hormipam Ruivah.
He was a key figure in defense for the Indian Arrows last season and also was a part of the India side that lifted the SAFF U-18 Championship 2019 in Nepal in September last year.
Now set for his Hero I-League debut for the side from Punjab, the young defender spoke about how he’s ‘excited’ about the upcoming campaign and made clear his team’s intentions of going all the way and lifting the trophy.
The defender, whose idols include Blue Tigers stalwart Sandesh Jhingan, mentioned that it’s his ‘dream’ to play for the Blue Tigers and spoke about how he’s learning from his teammate veteran defender Anwar Ali (Sr.), who was a part of the Indian side that played within the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011.
Hormipam Ruivah came from Manipur to Punjab FC setup:
Hormipam Ruivah, who hails from Somdal in Manipur, started 14 out 16 matches for the Arrows within the 2019-20 season, impressing together with his tackling and anticipation, alongside his passing and on-the-ball skills.
He grew immensely under the tutelage of two more former senior national team icons — Venkatesh Shanmugam and Mahesh Gawali, and stated that his stint with the Arrows was ‘vital’ and made him a ‘better player’.
RoundGlass Punjab FC began their pre-season training in Kolkata on November 9 under the requisite COVID-19 safety guidelines and Ruivah mentioned that the team is taking all necessary precautions as they build-up to the beginning of the competition.

RoundGlass Punjab has made some outstanding foreign acquisitions recently they brought in skillful players like Joseba Beitia(I-League winner with Mohun Bagan last season), Danilo Quipapa(Brazilian), and pacy Bhutanese winger Chencho Gyeltson(ex Bengaluru FC player).
Fine Indian players like Sumeet Passi, Bikramjit Singh, and Abinash Ruidas have also been added to the Indian Roster to challenge for the title.
RoundGlass Punjab FC will face Aizwal FC at Kalyani Municipality Stadium(4 pm IST), Kolkata in their first fixture of the new season.
