Ruben Amorim claims huge statement ahead of the derby

Ahead of his first Manchester derby this weekend, Ruben Amorim has made some huge statements. The Portuguese was rumored to be replacing Pep Guardiola at Manchester City while he was at Sporting. Before taking over as manager of Man United.

He already had a close relationship with the Sky Blue’s Sporting director of football Hugo Viana. Even before it was revealed that Amorim would be accepting a similar role at the Etihad Stadium. “We never had a conversation. This was my only option. When Man United talked to me, I had no doubts because I already had something in my mind that it could be a possibility. With Man City or Hugo Viana, there was nothing about that.”

The 39-year-old is absorbing all the pressure for his first derby in England by his experience. He is re imagining the days in Portugal when he used to face Benfica in the derby. Ruben Amorim said,

“I don’t really focus on the details – I just want to improve the team. I can’t live it like a normal derby, like it should be where there are two great teams fighting for the title. It’s not like that at the moment so it is just one more game against a very good opponent.”
