Jadon Sancho was signed by the Blues at the last hours of the deadline day from Manchester United. It was a loan deal but it will become permanent next season for around £20-25m. But to trigger that clause Chelsea needs to finish above the bottom six of the league table.
The English winger was signed by Man United for a whooping £73m fee from German side Borussia Dortmund in 2021. But since his arrival at the Old Trafford, he failed to keep up with his expectations. After two quiet seasons with the Red Devils, manager Erik Ten Hag sidelined Sancho from his squad. The 24 year old only appeared in the pitch for three times in the first half of last season.
However, Sancho secured a loan move to his former side Dortmund in the second half of the season. He regained his touch there and seemed like he never even lost it. Sancho was one of the key players behind Dortmund’s success in the Champions League campaign last season. They reached the finals of the UCL by defeating the likes of Atletico & PSG. However they fell short in the finals against Real Madrid.
Sancho came back to England after his loan deal ended in June. However, manager Erik Ten Hag still had problems with winger. In the Community Shield cup final Sancho was only used for 7 minutes by the Dutch manager in the 120 playable minutes. Sancho also went on to miss a crucial penalty in the shootout, which costed Red Devils the trophy.
So, there’s clearly not a good relation between the player and the manager. That is the reason why United sent Sancho to Chelsea, to get more playtime. Sancho who just joined the Blues camp is already impressed by their Italian manager Enzo Maresca.
Sancho’s debut for the Blues
Sancho had to wait quiet a period of time because of the international break for his debut appearance as a Chelsea player. But for the fans and manager it was worth the wait. Chelsea faced Bournemouth last sunday away from home at the Vitality Stadium. The home team dominated the game in the first half, where Chelsea goalkeeper Sanchez had to come up with some difficult saves including a penalty kick.
However, Sancho’s introduction the second half changed the game for the Blues. His instant impact on the pitch was very visible. He was constantly taking on defenders in the left side with his amazing pace and flair. Sancho even set up Christopher Nkunku’s late winning goal. As a result he was awarded with the POTM award in his debut appearance for the Blues
What has impressed the Englishman about Maresca
Fans loved Sancho’s performance and even started singing his name. After a difficult time at United Sancho will feel very happy and motivated after all this love showed by the fans. It is a fresh start for him at the Stamford Bridge, and even Maresca is also impressed with Sancho’s attitude.
According to the reports of Ben Jacobs, the feeling is mutual as Sancho is also influenced by the Italian. While writing for GiveMeSport Jacobs claimed,
“Sancho has also been struck by Maresca’s man management, with the Italian’s private chat with the player making it clear that the former United winger has a clean slate and there will be no looking back on his time at Old Trafford.”
He also mentioned that the Englishman has already made good friends at the Cobham camp. If Sancho manages to keep up with this form, he can play for the Three Lions soon. Chelsea will also be very glad to get the most out of the winger as Sancho could get his first debut as a starter against West Ham this weekend.
