SC East Bengal 3 – 1 Odisha FC: Post-match Analysis

SC East Bengal have won their first-ever match in the Indian Super League with a 3-1 lead against Odisha FC.

Midfielder Anthony Pilkington scored the first goal for East Bengal at the 12th minute of the match. After the half time whistle, the score was East Bengal 2 – 0 Odisha.

Bright Enobakhare scored his first goal in the Indian Super League 2020-21 for East Bengal.

The Kalinga Warriors had chances to equalize but lately the chances were not converted.

Odisha FC is still winless in their 8 matches so far this season. With just 2 points in their account, they lay at the bottom of the league standing.

Robbie Fowler head coach of East Bengal made two changes in his team lineups. Defender Raju Gaikwad replaced Surchandra Singh and Midfielder Milan Singh replaced Sehnaj Singh. East Bengal Changed their formation and played with 4-4-2.

Whereas head coach of Odisha Stuart Baxter played with the same squad. The side also went with the same 4-3-3 formation.

East Bengal 3 – 1 Odisha Match Analysis:

The Red and Gold dominated the match in the 12th minute of the game when Anthony Pilkington scored the first goal of the evening for East Bengal.

Jacques Maghoma doubled the lead in the 38th minute, closing all doors for the Kalinga warriors. By the end of the half time, East Bengal was leading Odisha.

The Kalinga Warriors had a couple of chances to equalize the score in the second half. The first shot by Mauricio from inside the box was deflected behind for a corner. In the resulting corner, Jacob Tratt’s header went straight into the hands of Debjit.

In the 88th minute, new signing Bright Enobakhare scored his first goal, in his debut match for East Bengal.

Notable Performance:

Anthony Pilkington: He had a prominent role in the East Bengal victory. At the opening moments of the game. He received the Hero of the Match award.

Surchandra Singh: He assisted Enobakhare to score the third goal for the Red and Gold. DHL Winning Pass of the Match was awarded to him.

“You always want to keep a clean sheet, I think the most important thing is that we got the three points and we won the game. We deserved a win, clean sheets are great but three points are more important.”

SC East Bengal to host their next match against third positioned FC Goa on 6th January. Odisha FC will face another Kerela Blasters FC on 7th January.
