SC East Bengal: New season, New Manager, New Team, Same Story

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

SC East Bengal(SCEB) have started the new season slowly and it has been a repeat of last season. 2020-2021 was their first season in the Indian Super League and it was a dismal season for SCEB as they finished 9th in the league table. The historic club from Kolkata have not lived up to the bill after entering the prestigious competition.

THE STRUGGLES FOR SC EAST BENGAL CONTINUE

SC East Bengal are winless after their first 5 matches in the current edition of the ISL and lie 11th after two weeks of constant football in Goa. A change of manager saw Manolo Diaz take over from Robbie Fowler this season, however, he has failed to make an impression. It has been the same old story for the club as they have leaked too many goals. Their poor defensive show was the reason for their downfall in the previous season.

Darren Sidoel(CDM), Tomislav Mrcela(CB), and Franjo Prce(CB) came into the club to tighten up SCEB’s defense. However, they have failed to impress and have leaked 14 goals in 5 matches.

SCEB have also been hit by the injury of their new captain Arindam Bhattacharya(GK). They were embarrassed by their arch-rivals ATK Mohun Bagan FC in the derby to make matters worse for them. Daniel Chukwu has been the only positive for the red and gold brigade. The Nigerian forward has scored two goals for the franchise and has been a sign of encouragement for the future. If SCEB is to turn this around, his form will be of utmost importance to the team.

There is still a long way to go into the season, and SCEB have a lot of time to turn this around. “Attack wins you matches, but defense wins you titles” is, a quote that SCEB should abide by for the future.
