Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos was seen in tears as he gave his farewell speech before leaving the club this summer. The club captain will end his 16-year long journey for Los Blancos, as he failed to renew his contract for another year.
Sergio Ramos was offered a one-year contract with a 10% pay-cut by Real Madrid to renew his contract. While, the captain wanted to stay for two more years, after all, he has done for Los Blancos. However, at last, Ramos decided to renew his contract by one year, but the club informed that the time to sign the deal expired. Which ended with Ramos leaving the club at the end of this month.
The club will be leaving the club after wearing the royal white shirt for a record 671 times for 16 seasons. In his record appearances, Ramos was able to get past a century of goals, while lifting 22 trophies for Real Madrid. Ramos was able to hold the Champions League title 4 times, and the La Liga title 5 times, with several other trophies showcased in his trophy cabinet.
However, Ramos couldn’t end his journey as captain fantastic, as he failed to bring home any trophy this season. But the Madrid fans will always remember him through his iconic moments and his 16 years of faithful service at Santiago Bernabeu.
Sergio Ramos became emotional during his farewell ceremony
Real Madrid officially announced on Tuesday that Sergio Ramos will be leaving the club this summer, after failing to renew his contract. Following which the club and club president Florentino Perez arranged a farewell ceremony for the club legend.
As Sergio Ramos stepped up to speak for the last time at Santiago Bernabeu, he was seen very emotional with tears in his eyes. Tears roll down his eyes as he spoke about his 16 years of journey at Real Madrid. While he was also said as he failed to renew his contract in time. However, he also stated that it is not goodbye as he tends to back at Real Madrid in the future.
These were his exact words as he gave his speech – “The moment has come, one of the most difficult in my life because you are never ready to leave Real Madrid. The fans supported me in the good moments and the bad. I would have liked to say goodbye in the stadium. A wonderful stage is closing, one that has been unique in my life, but an exciting new chapter begins and I go into it with a lot of desire to show my quality for many years to come.”
Sergio Ramos has still not decided on his future for the next seasons. But, later in a press conference, he cleared that he will not be joining Sevilla or Barcelona in near future. However, he revealed that some clubs have offered to sign to him.
It is believed that among the few clubs Paris Saint- Germain and Manchester United have listed their name. As it is rumored that PSG have offered a high-wage deal to Ramos. While the Red Devils are interested in him for years.
