Serie A Team of The 2020-2021 Season

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

The Serie A season has just been concluded this weekend with a dramatic plot twist on the final day of the season. Inter Milan were already the Champions and finished 12 points ahead of the second-placed arch-rival AC Milan.

On the final day, all eyes were on who would finish in the top four spots. After securing the Champions League spot Atalanta met Milan on the final day and lost by 0-2 which helped the Rossoneri to finish in the second spot.

Napoli threw away their chance of qualification by drawing at home against Hellas Verona. A Win on the final day would have given them third place. But, Juventus were beneficial with this result and finished in fourth place.

Cristiano Ronaldo won the golden boot by scoring 29 goals this season. He has now become the highest scorer in three different leagues.

Serie A Team of The Season:

We are going with the 3-4-1-2 formation for the Serie A team of the season.

Goalkeeper:

Gianluigi Donnarumma(GK): It was very close between Donnarumma and Samir Handanovic. As both played 37 games and earned 14 clean sheets. However, the saving percentage gave an advantage to the Milan goalkeeper.

Defenders:

Matthijs De Ligt(RCB): In a bad season he has improved a lot this season with Juventus. Andrea Pirlo played him ahead of Leonardo Bonucci in defence. This shows how much belief Pirlo has in the Dutchman.

Stefan De Vrij(CB): This time it is another Dutchman. The Inter defender has been a dependable figure for Antonio Conte. He was one of the reasons that the Nerazzurri conceded the least amount of goals.

Francesco Acerbi(LCB): The Italian international has been pretty consistent throughout the season with Lazio. Despite the struggles of the Eagles this season, the defender was a bright spot for Simone Inzaghi’s side.

Midfielders

Achraf Hakimi(RWB): In his first season in Serie A the Moroccan hasn’t been at his best that he showed for Borussia Dortmund. However, the attacking-minded right-back has scored seven goals and eight assists.

Theo Hernández(LWB): The French left-back has found his lost confidence under Stefano Pioli at Milan. He has always been great to watch going forward but Hernández lacked quality defensively. But this season he looked way more solid defensively as well. Former Real Madrid man has scored seven goals and five assists for the Rossoneri.

Franck Kessie(CM): Kessie has broken all the expectations in this season. The Ivorian was the most consistent and dependable player for Pioli. The midfielder has scored 13 goals and provided four assists. He was solid as well in terms of protecting the back four.

Marcelo Brozovic(CM): The Croatian was an integral part of this title-winning Inter side under Conte. He scored goals and defended quite well.

Ruslan Malinovskyi(CAM): Following the departure of Alejandro Gomez many people thought how Gian Piero Gasperini would replace him. But, Gasperini knew that he had a perfect replacement for that. The Ukrainian has scored eight goals and 12 assists this season.

Forwards

Romelu Lukaku(CF): Lukaku has rejuvenated since moving to Italy. He scored 24 goals this season and 11 assists. His partnership with Lautaro Martínez won the Serie A title for Inter Milan along with the presence of Conte on the sideline.

Cristiano Ronaldo(CF): Ronaldo won the golden boot for this season by scoring 29 goals. He hasn’t had a great time this season. However, his goal tally is showing a different story. At the age of 36, he scored almost thirty goals which are pretty impressive.

Serie A Team of the season:
