Liverpool will be travelling to St Mary’s Stadium for their inaugural Premier League fixture of the year against Southampton.
Both the teams will have to deliver as they ended the previous year with a draw. Liverpool will be disappointed as they dropped points two games in a row after they were held both times. With Manchester United taking advantage of their slip-up and levelling points with them, they will have to win turn things around.
Southampton had a bright start to the season but dropped a lot of points last month. They haven’t won any of their last 4 games and will want to get a win as early as possible.
SOUTHAMPTON VS LIVERPOOL PREVIEW:
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl missed his team’s last fixture as he was self-isolated after his wife had been tested positive. Their match against West Ham United ended in a stalemate. On Thursday, he was cleared of his self-isolation period after series of negative results and will be joining the club’s dugout on Monday.
Misery mounts Liverpool as yet another one of their players got injured. Joel Matip will be missing 3 weeks due to a groin injury. Jurgen Klopp will have to tweak his team in order to get a favourable result.

SOUTHAMPTON VS LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS:
Ralph Hasenhuttl does not have any fresh injury worries. The only ones are of defender Jannik Vestergaard’s and winger Nathan Redmond’s who both missed their previous match due to injuries. The prior may be fit for the clash, but the former is set to miss out this meet.
The Saints will be hoping to take advantage of their opponent’s defensive weakness by pressing higher.
Jurgen Klopp will definitely have to make changes. Joel Matip’s injury means Nat Phillips will be starting.
On the positive side, Thiago Alcantara’ return will be a huge boost for them. He was sidelined for more than 2 months after getting injured. Xherdan Shaqiri has also returned after his injury spell and will bolster his team. The vicious front three will be hoping to continue their goal-scoring streak.
