Manchester City will be heading to Southampton for their Saturday evening kickoff against high flying Southampton.
Citizens will be under pressure to perform and get the three points after a couple of disappointing draws against Manchester United and West Brom.
It’s a pale view currently, with lots of possession but a lack of finishing quality and end product. Of late, they seem to be playing very passive sideways football lacking urgency and motive.
Against West Brom it was more of the same case started well and got a beautiful goal and then they went missing for an hour and later realized in the last 10 mins that the score is 1-1.
Southampton sit at 3rd position in the Premier League table with just 4 points behind league leaders Liverpool. Manchester City sit at 9th position with just 20 points from 12 league fixture.
One positive has been Aguero’s return. Gabriel Jesus is good but not as clinical and prolific as Aguero. Hope they will turn up for this match.
On the flip side of the coin are the Saints as we can’t praise their Coach Ralf Hassenhutl. He saved them from relegation, then after woeful 9-0 drubbing against Leicester last season, he picks that team and done wonders with them.
He made Oriol Romeu and Ward Prowse look like utter midfield geniuses. To be honest, he made Theo Walcott look like Sterling. From rotting on Everton bench Walcott has been an utter revelation under him and his pace is turning out to be a headache for defenses.
Here’s what Pep Guardiola has to say on Ralf and Southampton.
They have an exceptional manager. I know him a little bit from my time in Germany. He was at many clubs. Leipzig played in a specific style.
He has experience at the back and one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, Romeu. They have James Ward-Prowse, an incredible player in set pieces. Southampton, for many many years, have been working well, so no surprise. But it is a challenge and we will see what happens.”
On the counterpart this is what Ralf Hassenhutl have to say on a huge task in hand.
I think we play against a fantastic team, in possession one of the best teams in the world. I think there are different ways to play against such teams but in the end, it is a lot about investing more than the opponent.
Definitely you need a fantastic game and a fantastic day and it’s a pity that we don’t have more time to prepare for the game, because for this game normally you should have a little bit more time to train on the pitch, to work on a few things, on a few automatisms.”
Injured players: Eric Garcia, Oleksander Zinchenko for Manchester City, and none for Southampton.
