Southampton vs Manchester United: Preview, Team News, Predicted Line-ups

Southampton FC will host Manchester United at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League fixture on Sunday and they will be looking to extend their fine run of form and pick up a win at home.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have not lost in their last six league games and fancy their chances against an inconsistent Manchester United side. They are fifth with 5 wins and 2 draws in 9 matches in Premier League.

After a horrible start to the season, Ole Gunner Solskjær has lead Manchester United to three straight wins in all competitions. If they can win this match they will be only 4 points off from the top of the table and two points off from the top four. That shows how close the league has been so far.

Southampton vs Manchester United Preview:

The Red Devils are tenth in the Premier League table right now with 13 points from eight games and they will be desperate to climb up the table with a win here. They played one match less than the others who are above them because of late Europa League involvement last season.

Manchester United have drawn four of their last five matches against Southampton and it will be interesting to see if they can find a way to pick up all three points this time, against a very good team and good style of football. United haven’t lost a point on road this season in Premier League, they played 3 and won 3.

Bruno Fernandes the most consistent performer in the United dressing room and he has become an integral part of the team. He already has 9 goal involvements in 8 matches with 6 goals and 3 assists in the Premier League this season.

He settled down in Manchester United shirt like a fish in the water. Manchester United fans will be hoping that he will do something magical to overcome this tough fixture.

Team News:

Manchester United will be without Eric Bailly and Luke Shaw due to injury. The likes of Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay are expected to miss out after missing training. Victor Lindelof picked up a knock during the midweek but Solskjær said that he will be okay but not 100%.

After a good display against Istanbul Basaksehir from Donny Van De Beek it will be interesting to see that will Solskjær give the 23-years-old Dutchman his first Premier League start or Nemanja Matic gets the chance ahead of him.

“Marcus [Rashford], Victor [Lindelöf], Aaron
[Wan-Bissaka] should be okay but not 100%. Luke [Shaw] has started rehab on the grass, not
with the squad.”

“Scott [McTominay] and Paul [Pogba] didn’t train this morning, they weren’t on the grass. They look very unlikely for the weekend.”

-Solskjær said in his press conference

As for Southampton, star striker Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond are ruled out with injury concerns.

Predicted Line-ups and Predictions:

Southampton: McCarthy; Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Bertrand; Armstrong, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Djenepo; Adams, Walcott

Manchester United: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelöf, Maguire, Telles; Fernandes, Fred, Van de Beek; Rashford, Martial, Greenwood

Match Prediction: Southampton 1-1 Manchester United

Although Southampton started the season poorly, they have been a difficult team to beat this season. Even though they are without Danny Ings they have the quality to create all sorts of problems for the Manchester United defence which is already quite fragile.

Manchester United have regained some sort of resilience in their midfield and defence. The last three wins will give them confidence for this match. They have to be careful against the free-kicks and set-pieces of James Ward-Prowse to win this match.

It will be a close encounter and it will be hard to differentiate between these two teams. The Saints didn’t lose at home in the last two encounters against Manchester United. Will see what will happen tomorrow, can Manchester United win at Southampton after three years or Southampton will carry on their good form wait for tomorrow to see it.
