Star Chelsea sold for £10 million backed to play for City or Arsenal

One former Chelsea star has backed Billy Gilmour to have a bright future ahead of him. He also said that Gilmour can be the main player for Man City or Arsenal. If this happens, the Blues will surely regret their decision of selling him for just £10 million.

Billy Gilmour joined Chelsea’s academy in 2017 from Rangers academy. He then went on to make his debut for Blues in 2019. He was very good in his debut season and was receiving praise from all around.

But Billy was unable to stay consistent and then was sent on loan to Norwich City. He played 28 matches for Norwich which earned him a permanent move to Brighton. The Blues parted ways with Scottish international for just £10 million.

Gilmour played only 17 matches for Brighton in his first season. But, last season he levelled up and played 41 matches. This season after playing 2 Premier League games, he was sold to Napoli for £12 million.

Gilmour is looking very good under Antonio Conte. He has helped Napoli to secure the first place in Serie A. Now, one former Chelsea player has highlighted his quality and spoke very highly about him.

Former Chelsea star speaks very highly about Billy Gilmour

Former Chelsea and Scotland star Pat Nevin had some really good words for his compatriot. Firstly he said that he knows the star ever since he was playing for Rangers. He added many know him after he dominated the game against Liverpool.

“I see a lot of him for Scotland and all the teams he’s played for and I believe that if you put him in the centre of midfield for Arsenal or Manchester City, he’d be just fine” – Nevin speaking to BetVictor via The Metro.

Nevin then said that Billy moving to big clubs makes sense. He added that the Scotland international is technically good player and has ability to do huge things in football. Lastly, he said that Billy was unable to get a lot of chances at Chelsea because Jorginho was the main man back then.

Before ending the discussion, Nevin had more to say about what is stoping Gilmour from getting a big offer. He thinks that the only thing Billy lacks is scoring or creating goals. But he has belief that if Gilmour stays at only one club for four or five years, he will be even better than he is right now.
