Stefano Pioli Publicly Apologizes to Manchester United Coaches

Manchester United beat AC Milan 1-0 in a tight and tense game at San Siro in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie on Thursday night. Stefano Pioli’ men kept Manchester United at bay for most of the game.

The situation got heated by after a comment from Manchester United assistant coach Kieran McKenna after the final whistle. Stefano Pioli was also annoyed by United’s perceived time-wasting.

After the game, the Milan boss apologised for his words publicly and said it won’t happen again in the future.

What did Pioli say on Thursday?

AC Milan’s boss was angered over McKenna’s attempts to waste time at the end of the game. The United coach was kicking the ball away on multiple occasions in an attempt to slow the game down.

According to Italian media, 34-year-old McKenna told Pioli “good team,” after the full-time whistle. The ex-Fiorentina gaffer took offence at what he said.

“Good team my a***. You are nothing but an a******. Your sister has a good team.” – Pioli said in a fit of rage.

“I’m sorry for the reaction I had, it won’t happen again. I congratulated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. I was angry with his assistant.” – Stefano Pioli apologized on Friday

Initial reports confused McKenna with Solskjaer and had claimed that Pioli had directed the insult towards the United manager. But the Milan boss’ interview on Friday clarified the situation.

The recent poor form of the young Italian side may be the reason behind Pioli‘ outburst. They slipped down from the Serie A top spot by 9 points off of rivals, Inter Milan. They were the table toppers for most of the first half of the season. And now they are eliminated from the UEFA Europa League as well.
