English club Newcastle United has reportedly completed the signing of Dutch International Sven Botman. The Lille Central defender will be undergoing his medical in Tyneside soon after a €37 million agreed-on fee for the 22-year-old future star.
The over 6-foot defender has been a promising talent in Europe after helping Lille dethrone PSG to win the Ligue 1 in 2020-21. Various claims have been made citing him as the next Van Dijk gave his physicality and intelligent defending.
Still only 22 years old, Botman will take some time to adjust to the fast, physical, and intense premier league football and has a big future ahead of him. He is Newcastle’s third signing of the season amid the arrivals of Nick Pope and Matt Target.
Manager Eddie Howe said:
“I am delighted that Sven is joining us. He is very good technically, physically and has a great attitude. Already at 22, he has great experience at a top level and will just keep growing.”
“I Can’t Wait To Start This New Adventure”
Speaking about his move, Botman said:
” I am really happy and can’t wait to start this new adventure. This is the best day of my life, to sign a contract with Newcastle. They have a long term plan to get to the top. The whole package is perfect. I am really looking forward to meeting my team members and new staff.”
It will be fascinating to see how Botman performs for his new team who have had the financial backing of their new owners and are really pulling off good moves in the market.
