LIVERPOOL

Liverpool Football Club or Liverpool FC is a professional football club based in Liverpool, England. Meanwhile, they compete in the Premier League which is the top tier of English football. Liverpool has the nickname ‘The Reds’, which is popularly given by the fanbase.

Trophies

The club has domestically won nineteen League titles. They also have seven FA Cups. Meanwhile, The Reds have a record of eight Carabao Cups and fifteen FA Community Shields. In international competitions, the club has won six European Cups, more than any other English club. They also have three UEFA Cups, four UEFA Super Cups, and one FIFA Club World Cup.

History

Liverpool was founded in 1892. The club joined the Football League in the following year. Meanwhile, they have played at Anfield since its formation. The Reds established itself as a big force in English and European football in the 1970-80 period. Meanwhile, the likes of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, and Kenny Dalglish led the club to a huge eleven league titles. They also managed to win four European Cups. Liverpool won another UEFA Champions League in 2005 under the management of Rafael Benítez. Jurgen Klopp recently led Liverpool to the sixth Champions League. They also won their nineteenth league title under him.

Tragedies

The club’s supporters have been involved in two major tragedies. The Heysel Stadium disaster was the worst one. The escaping fans were pressed against a collapsing wall at the 1985 European Cup Final in Brussels. This incident resulted in 39 deaths. Most of these were Italians and Juventus fans. As a result, English clubs were given a five-year ban from European competition.

The Hillsborough disaster in 1989, where 97 Liverpool supporters died in a crush against perimeter fencing. This led to the elimination of fenced standing terraces in favor of all-seater stadiums in the top two tiers of English football.

Rivalries

Liverpool is one of the most widely supported clubs in the world, as well as one of the most valuable which has rivalries with Manchester United and Everton. In 1964, the team changed from red shirts and white shorts to an all-red home strip. This strip has been used ever since. The anthem of the club is “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
