Ex-Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has enjoyed a fine form in the 3-5-2 formation under Jose Mourinho. Abraham plays a part in the two-man strike force upfront but sometimes he plays alone upfront with Pellegrini and Veretout behind him.
Abraham rarely leaves the width of the goalkeeper’s 6-yard box. Sometimes he drops deep and helps the midfield but he has very few touches per 90. With 32.5 touches per 90 Abraham ranks in the bottom three of the Roma Squad just above Rui Patricio’s 29.6. Left Wing-Back Nicola Zalewski tops the list with 73, followed by Ibanez and Cristante at 71.3 & 70.2.
Abraham for the gialrossi’s
Tammy Abraham’s touches per 90 may seem too poor but this is common with goal scorers/poachers. Jamie Vary from Leicester is another player who has similar traits and has just 21 touches per 90. Abraham plays upfront and most of his touches are received in the attacking third which stands at 15.1 per 90.
This is quite low too as Pellegrini who plays alongside/behind him accounts for 26.2 touches per 90. We can ignore the touches as this is something poachers have.
They don’t make more touches but when they do it matters and, in this case, AS Roma won the UEFA Conference league. His stats are not amazing but he’s performing very well for Roma. Abraham beat the record set by Batistuta and Montella, by scoring 27 goals with 4 assists in his debut campaign.
Abraham has improved at Roma, especially at his defense work and Mourinho played a big part in doing so. Mourinho’s Roma does press up front and Abraham & Pellegrini is the spearhead of this attack.
Recently he’s been under some speculation that hasn’t originated from a newspaper or a journalist and certainly not from an internet gossip column. A video of Abraham has emerged in which he was seen chatting with Trent Alexander Arnold on England duty. Abraham was heard saying “Trent good luck I’m joining you guys next season”.
In all likelihood, this is a joke between two teammates, and all we know is he’s not even directly talking about a move to Liverpool. With Divock Origi is all set to join Milan, Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich, Uncertain futures of Minamino and Oxlade-Chamberlin may very well make space for him.
Abraham this season operated at 0.73 expected goals per 90 just 0.07 behind Mane. If he can replicate this form in England, he can be a worthy replacement to end the goals drought. Given the fact that he cost 60 million euros and can only play centrally is very unlikely for PL and especially not for Klopp.
