Red Devil’s legend Gary Neville asserts that Manchester United can’t get near Cole Palmer as he is already a great player for Chelsea.
Cole Palmer is the closest that Chelsea have got since they lost Eden Hazard to Real Madrid in 2019. The Englishman has been one of the best signings since the new owners took over the Blues in 2022. However in a recent interview Gary Neville has stated that despite Palmer being a Man Utd fan it would be hard to get them. Anyway United should first sort out the problems at their backyard before going for a high profile player like Palmer. In seperate podcast show Blues legend John Obi Mikel claimed that a certain Chelsea star is holding back the team.
NEVILLE ON COLE PALMER TO MANCHESTER UNITED
Cole Palmer has been one of the best Chelsea players in the last season and seen as the future of the club. The 22 year has already made a name for himself with the Blues despite arriving last season. He scored 22 goals and 11 assists in 33 games for Chelsea last season, the definition of hitting the ground running. The Blues have already awarded their future star a nine year contract and considerable wage upgrade. Todd Boehly has tied him down until 2033 well past his prime years.
Despite being a Manchester United fan from a young age Cole Palmer started his youth career with rivals Manchester City. Under Guardiola the youngster made his debut for the Cityzens. Instead of sending on loan and preserving him for future, City decide to cash in on the youngster. Chelsea payed 42.5 million pounds for his services and well did they benefit from it.
Speaking to a podcast It’s Called Soccer, Gary Neville was asked about the chances of Palmer playing for United. The Red Devil’s legend insisted that United have no chance of signing the Englishman from Chelsea. He said: said: “I know, to be fair, that just rubs salt into the wounds.
He sarcastically said: “I mean, seriously. He plays for Manchester City as a kid, he supports Manchester United, then he goes to Chelsea and starts scoring 3000 goals and signs a 42-year contract so we can’t even get him back!”
We also align with the thoughts of Neville as Palmer has already established as talismanic figure at Stamford Bridge. With all that potential inside he can get better and better as years pass. At this moment we can’t imagine a scenario where Chelsea would let such a talent go.
WHAT JOHN OBI MIKEL SAID?
Former Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel speaking on his own The Obi One Podcast came out claiming that Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is holding back Chelsea from becoming Premier League title contenders. A bold statement from the former footballer as Maresca still sees Sanchez as his first choice between the sticks. In the light of the recent performance against Brighton where the Spaniard made two huge mistakes which lead to goals. The Seagulls scored early when a diffensive mishap lead to a ball rising high in the Chelsea box which was headed in by Georginio Rutter. During that goal Robert Sanchez made an attempt to take hold of the ball which went into vain and lead to the goal. The second Brighton goal came when the Spaniard casually gave the ball away to Carlos Baleba who slotted the ball past.
Anyway he made some crucial saves later, one from Welbeck and another from Baleba. Obi Mikel accepts the fact that Sanchez is a good keeper but insists he is not a top goalkeeper.
“Let’s not kid ourselves, we don’t have that. No disrespect to Robert Sanchez, he’s a fantastic goalkeeper but we need a top, top goalkeeper to compete.”. Said Obi Mikel in his podcast.
We have to accept some part of what Mikel Obi said but Sanchez was brilliant in the previous matches. And in the first goal against Brighton, the whole Blues defence should be at blame not the Spaniard alone. However Chelsea also have a brilliant keeper in Filip Jorgensen on bench if they see a dip in Sanchez’s form. The football.london insists that the Danish man should be given a run between the sticks.
