The Ballon D’or ceremony has brought joy for Barcelona despite a poor last season

Barcelona underperformed last season despite finishing in the top 2 in La Liga. The club was very disappointing for a large part of the season in 2021/22. Ronald Koeman was sacked by Joan Laporta after a poor start to the season. Former Barcelona player, Xavi Hernandez was appointed as the new manager.

Despite the poor season for the Men’s team, the club has enjoyed success at the recent Ballon D’or ceremony. Robert Lewandowski, Gavi, and Alexia Putellas have been rewarded at the ceremony. The President explained that he is very proud of the club and the first teams after the ceremony.

The Polish international won the Gerd Muller trophy which is awarded to the Best Striker. Whereas Gavi won the Kopa Trophy which is awarded to the Best young player in the world. However, Alexia Putellas won the Ballon D’or for the second successive season after an impressive campaign for Barcelona Femeni.

Barcelona’s President was pleased to see his team praised in France

In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Joan Laporta said:

“We are the most awarded club and seeing Gavi being recognised and shouting ‘Visca el Barca’, and Alexia, who shows pride to all and Lewandowski taking the prize for the best goalscorer.”

The President further went on to say:

“It is an event at which Barcelona is present, we are the most nominated club and I am very proud of these players that we have that make Barcelona ‘more than a club’ and it allows us to go around with our heads held very high.”

Barcelona’s chief expressed his delight about the Kopa Award as Gavi received the trophy from its last recipient, Pedri. The President said:

“When I saw them both together, I was moved because I love Barca and these two young players. The past year Pedri won it and this year they gave it to Gavi. He is a boy that makes you love him, a very restless man and you see it in all of his performances.”

Hopefully, Barcelona achieves their goals set for the season and returns at the ceremony as the most decorated club on the night!!
