Sepp van den Berg is a young Dutch defender who is currently at Liverpool Football Club. The dutchman joined Liverpool at age of 17 in 2019 from PEC Zwolle which was previously coached by their new and current manager Arne Slot. The youngster is looking for a move in this transfer window as his future at Liverpool seems pointless.
22 years-old is currently linked to the recent Dutch champions PSV. Club’s head coach Peter Bosz is very impressed with the player, and he wants the player on board. Van Ded Berg is in contract with Liverpool till 2026. According to reports the club and the players both are agreed on player to leave the club.
Negotations between Liverpool and PSV
Reportedly, Liverpool and PSV are in negotiation in this deal and Merseyside Giants are asking for 20 million Euros. The Dutch champions believe that the price tag is bit overpriced for the player. On the other hand Liverpool are not ready to lower the price. PSV are expecting the price tag to go at least to 15 million Euros.
“PSV will also try to complete the transfer of Sepp van den Berg (Liverpool) quickly,” the report says.
“He would like to come to Eindhoven and that is not the stumbling block now. Van den Berg and PSV will reach an agreement, but Liverpool wants an enormous price. If the British stick to €20m, it will probably be very complicated for PSV to do business. If five million or more is deducted from the price, then it will probably be possible.”
The possible future for the dutchman
So far, he has been watched by clubs like Southampton and Wolfsburg but still is unable to find a proper destination for his future and he also understands the fact that chances of him staying at his current club is almost zero.
The Dutchman Van den Berg’s last season was on loan at Mainz in the Bundesliga and he had played big role in helping the Germans escape the relegation threat. His exceptional performances throughout the season had made the club believe in his qualities and the club also tried to get the player permanently in the team from Liverpool. However, Mainz have been frustrated at being unable to push negotiations along with Liverpool. Van den Berg himself is also annoyed that his career is being held back.
“They haven’t radiated confidence in me, but they do want to hinder my future,” he told De Telegraaf. “I want to keep playing weekly and develop myself further“. On the other hands Liverpool never were seemed to reduce the price tag of the player and that always was the problem for the other club and the player to make the deal go through.
conclusion
Liverpool are looking for new center backs and they are looking to improve their squad depth especially at the back. Quansah, who was crucial for Liverpool last season is also struggling to find his place in the first team squad and has also been linked to the other clubs. In these situations it seems Liverpool are determined to get a new stopper on board and move on from the current ones and the same applies for the Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg.
